Before you make a capture request
Decide whether the page is public or requires a taxpayer account. Use only a URL you are permitted to capture. Screenshotlayer documents URL-based capture with an access key, but its API and FAQ do not establish support for importing session cookies, submitting login forms, interacting with a browser, or completing CAPTCHA and OTP steps. For an account-only page, do not assume that an API request can reach the authenticated content. Confirm session and interactive-login support with the provider before sending any account-related request. The instructions below are for public pages; they are not a verified GST-login method.
Choose the capture settings
Viewport or full page
A viewport capture focuses on the visible area at the requested dimensions. Set viewport to the intended browser dimensions; the API specification uses 1440x900 as an example. Add fullpage=1 to request the full page height. Inspect full-page images for content below the portion you intended to share.

Format and rendering delay
The API specification lists PNG as the default. The FAQ says PNG, JPEG, and GIF are supported. Choose a format that keeps text legible for your use. The delay option asks Screenshotlayer to wait before capture, which can help when a page needs extra time to render. No GST-specific delay has been established, so choose and verify a value for your own public-page use case rather than assuming a universal setting.
Cache freshness
The API specification gives ttl a default of 2592000 seconds, which the FAQ describes as 30 days. If the page may have changed and you need a fresh image, review the ttl and force options in the API documentation. Do not interpret a cached capture as proof of the page’s current state.

Check the result before using or sharing it

- Consider whether the result could be cached; use the documented freshness controls when the current page state matters.
- Redact confidential account or taxpayer information before sharing an image, and avoid sending sensitive data to a third party unless authorized and appropriate.
For GSTR-1, use the portal for the return workflow
The GST tutorial’s GSTR-1 instructions direct users to log in at gst.gov.in, then open Services > Returns > Returns Dashboard, select the financial year and filing period, and choose Prepare Online or Prepare Offline. In online preparation, data is entered on the portal; offline preparation uses a JSON file prepared with offline tools. This workflow documentation does not establish that Screenshotlayer can access the resulting authenticated pages. Privacy and account safety
GST’s guidance warns against saving passwords on public or shared systems and against disclosing credentials or OTP information. The request does not capture the expected page
Check that the target is publicly reachable, the URL includes its protocol, and the access key and parameter names match the API specification. If the URL leads to an account login or interactive challenge, the documented URL and header options do not establish a way to complete it.
The image is blank, incomplete, or clipped
Try an appropriate delay if rendering takes longer, and compare viewport capture with fullpage=1. Recheck the image dimensions and the target page’s accessibility. The available sources do not establish a GST-specific setting that guarantees a complete capture.

Review the configured ttl and the documented force option. Screenshotlayer’s stated default cache lifetime is 2,592,000 seconds (30 days); a cached image may not reflect a recent page change.
The page asks for CAPTCHA or OTP
Stop treating the request as a normal public-page capture. GST login may involve CAPTCHA and conditional OTP, while the cited Screenshotlayer materials do not document handling those interactive steps. Do not try to work around the challenge by exposing credentials or OTPs in a request.
