For a native 4K, 60 fps YouTube stream in OBS, set Settings → Video to 3840×2160 for both the canvas and output, then configure Settings → Output for CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and a codec-appropriate bitrate. You also need a stable upload connection and a computer that can encode your actual scene. The controls below use OBS’s documented English labels, with Tamil explanations; exact Tamil interface labels have not been verified.
Before you start: prepare YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or select your event. Get the stream destination and key through the account’s current interface. Keep the stream key private: anyone with it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Choose RTMPS if it is available for the ingest configuration. YouTube recommends it as the secure extension of RTMP. YouTube normally detects the incoming resolution and frame rate. If you need to force a resolution, YouTube documents using a custom stream key and enabling manual stream-resolution settings; the precise account workflow can change. - In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube as the service if available, and enter the key using the current YouTube/OBS workflow. Do not show it in a screen recording or share it with viewers.
Set 4K resolution and 60 fps in OBS
Go to Settings → Video. Set both dimensions to 3840×2160 for a native 4K composition, and set the common frame-rate value to 60.

Matching the canvas to the intended 4K source composition avoids unintended scaling. A lower-resolution source can be scaled to a 4K output, but that does not create detail absent from the source. If the computer or connection struggles, reduce output resolution or frame rate and test again. Configure encoder, bitrate, and keyframes
Open Settings → Output and choose an encoder available on your computer. Set rate control to CBR, use a codec supported by the selected YouTube ingest path, and set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four. Its live guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1, up to 60 fps. YouTube live encoder settings.

These are YouTube’s published encoder recommendations, not guarantees for every scene or internet connection. Choose the row matching the codec OBS actually sends. Run an upload speed test and leave headroom so other network use or fluctuations do not destabilize the stream. A connection that barely reaches the listed bitrate may not be reliable enough for a continuous broadcast.
Choose an encoder your system can sustain
OBS may offer hardware and software encoders depending on the operating system and hardware. Hardware encoding can move work from the CPU to dedicated GPU hardware; newer encoders can deliver good quality with low performance impact, while earlier generations may produce lower quality at the same bitrate. That does not make any codec or encoder universally best: support, ingest compatibility, scene complexity, resolution, and frame rate all matter. OBS hardware encoding.

Set audio and color correctly
Stereo audio
For a conventional stereo stream, YouTube lists AAC or MP3 and its advanced guidance specifies 44.1 kHz at 128 Kbps for stereo. In OBS, set audio to match your source and confirm the correct microphone or desktop audio device is active before going live.
SDR color
For standard dynamic range (SDR), YouTube lists Rec. 709 and 8-bit. Use this path when your source and production are SDR rather than selecting HDR settings just because the stream is 4K.

HDR workflow
HDR is a separate end-to-end configuration. YouTube recommends H.265/HEVC for HDR, states that AV1 is not supported for HDR, and lists 10-bit. Use HDR only when the source, OBS configuration, encoder, and ingest path all support it; changing a color setting alone does not turn SDR material into genuine HDR.

Build a scene and run a realistic test
- In the OBS Sources panel, add the source you actually need, such as Display Capture, Window Capture, Game Capture, a camera, media, or text. A capture card is optional; use one only when you need an HDMI source such as a camera or console. OBS lists capture cards as one of several source types, not a requirement. OBS Studio overview.
- Check that sources fit the 4K canvas and that overlays or text remain legible at the intended viewing size. Confirm audio meters respond and the audio is not clipped or muted.
- Before the public event, stream a private or otherwise appropriate test with representative motion, overlays, and audio. YouTube says, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” Watch YouTube’s stream-health messages and OBS’s statistics during the test and while live. YouTube live encoder settings.
- If the test drops frames or the computer cannot maintain the stream, simplify the scene or lower the output resolution or frame rate, then test again. There is no guaranteed 4K60 capacity based only on meeting OBS’s basic requirements: OBS explicitly cautions, “Having a compatible system does not guarantee that it is capable of streaming or recording using OBS Studio.” OBS system requirements.
Common 4K60 problems and fixes
- YouTube does not show 4K60: Confirm that OBS output is 3840×2160 at 60 fps, the event is receiving the stream, and the stream key/ingest configuration is the intended one. YouTube normally detects resolution and frame rate automatically; check the current Live Control Room health details.
- Unstable stream or dropped frames: Compare your configured bitrate with YouTube’s codec-specific guidance and test upload stability. Reduce bitrate only if needed for a reliable connection, and lower resolution or frame rate if the computer or network cannot sustain the setup.
- High CPU/GPU load or encoding lag: Reduce scene complexity, close unnecessary workloads, or try another supported encoder. Hardware encoding shifts work but its quality and performance depend on hardware generation and settings.
- Soft or blurry image: Verify that the source is actually 4K, rather than an upscaled lower-resolution input, and check that the selected bitrate corresponds to the codec in use. Upscaling cannot restore source detail.
- Color looks wrong: Verify whether the production is SDR or HDR and use the corresponding color and codec path. Do not apply HDR settings to an SDR workflow expecting an automatic improvement.
- HDMI source is missing: If using a capture card, check that its exact model supports the required input format and frame rate, works with your operating system, and is connected and selected in OBS. The cited OBS and YouTube guidance does not validate any particular card’s 4K60 input or passthrough capability, so check the manufacturer’s specifications before buying.
Copyright and YouTube channel rules
OBS settings do not grant rights to the video, music, gameplay, or other material you broadcast. Use material you own or are authorized to stream, and check YouTube’s current policies and any applicable licenses before going live. A technically healthy stream can still face copyright claims or other YouTube enforcement. Reused-content monetization decisions are separate from encoder configuration; review YouTube’s current channel monetization policies rather than assuming that looping, editing, or adding overlays makes third-party content eligible.
