Short answer: Microlink and ScreenshotOne both document API workflows for full-page images and PDFs, but their controls differ. Microlink offers a straightforward fullPage option and detailed paper, margin, scale, and page-range controls for PDFs. ScreenshotOne documents scrolling and alternative full-page algorithms, plus options for making a PDF a single tall page. Neither is proven universally faster or more reliable: choose by the output you need, then trial it on the pages you actually capture.
Start by choosing the output you need
A full-page screenshot is usually one tall image. A PDF can instead be a conventional paginated document, with page breaks and print styles, or a single tall sheet that resembles the website on screen. Those are different rendering goals, not interchangeable file formats.
- One tall image: Compare full-page capture, scrolling and lazy-load behavior, image format, and how the resulting asset is delivered.
- Readable document: Prefer paper dimensions, margins, page ranges, and print-oriented styles. Expect page breaks, and check whether the site provides print CSS.
- One-page design capture: Configure the PDF renderer to use screen styles and fit the page onto one sheet. The result may be very tall or scaled down, so it may not be convenient to read or print.
Long pages, lazy-loaded images, sticky headers, and animations can all affect the result. Both vendors document controls intended to help, but neither promises that every site will render perfectly.
Microlink vs ScreenshotOne at a glance
| Question | Microlink | ScreenshotOne |
|---|---|---|
| Full-page image | screenshot.fullPage: true captures the scrollable page. Its SDK documents PNG and JPEG formats and element capture. Screenshot guide and SDK methods. |
full_page=true enables scrolling by default. It documents a default algorithm and a by_sections algorithm that captures sections and combines them. Options and full-page guide. |
| PDF controls | Supports paper format, margins, scale, and page ranges. Print media is the default; screen media is available. The PDF is exposed as a hosted CDN asset, or the API can be configured to return it directly. PDF guide. | Supports PDF output and documents screen rendering, background printing, and pdf_fit_one_page for fitting a page onto one sheet. Options. |
| How output is exposed | Guides describe hosted image or PDF assets with metadata; PDF can also be returned directly. | Not stated in the cited options and full-page documentation. |
| Published evaluation allowance | Its PDF guide says the API works without an API key and allows 25 free requests per day; verify the current terms in the guide. | Pricing page accessed 2026-10-03 lists 100 free screenshots per month. Verify the live pricing page before budgeting. |

How Microlink handles full-page screenshots and PDFs
Full-page screenshots
Microlink’s screenshot guide uses a target URL and a screenshot option; set fullPage: true to capture the scrollable page rather than only the visible viewport. The response exposes a hosted screenshot asset with metadata such as type, dimensions, and size. The SDK reference also documents PNG/JPEG format choices and element capture.
#1 Best Overall
Use this route when you want a simple full-page capture or need an element-specific screenshot. Check the output for content that only appears after scrolling: the presence of a full-page option does not guarantee every site’s lazy-loaded content has finished rendering.
PDF generation
Microlink accepts a URL with pdf: true for default PDF generation, or a PDF options object for paper format, margin, scale, and page ranges. Print media styles are the documented default. Choose screen media if the on-screen appearance is more important than the print layout. The resulting PDF is exposed as a hosted CDN URL and metadata; the API can also be configured to return the PDF directly.
For PDF-only requests, Microlink’s guide says disabling metadata extraction is usually the biggest speedup. This is a vendor-documented optimization, not a measured latency guarantee. The same guide states that production plans unlock configurable TTL, stale-while-revalidate caching, custom filenames, custom headers, and proxy; the cited passage does not provide current plan prices.

How ScreenshotOne handles full-page screenshots and PDFs
Scrolling and full-page algorithms
Set full_page=true to request a full-page screenshot. ScreenshotOne says this also enables scrolling by default to help load lazy images. The default algorithm is one option; by_sections captures sections and combines them into a single image. The vendor says section capture can handle more complex pages with animations.
Its guide recommends experimenting with viewport dimensions, algorithm, scroll settings, reduced motion, and additional wait time. It also warns that improving output quality can reduce performance. ScreenshotOne’s documentation cautions: “Rendering full-page screenshots reliably is a real challenge. And even after a lot of tuning, it might not work for all the pages.” That is a vendor warning about the rendering problem, not comparative evidence that ScreenshotOne performs worse or better than Microlink.
PDFs: paginated or one tall page
For a PDF resembling a full-page screenshot, ScreenshotOne recommends format=pdf&media_type=screen&pdf_print_background=true&pdf_fit_one_page=true. Background printing and one-page fitting are off by default. With fitting enabled, the service attempts to put the website onto one page rather than splitting it. Use this for a single-sheet rendition, not automatically for a readable multipage document.

Published allowances and pricing
The figures below are provider-published offers, not independent measurements. ScreenshotOne’s pricing page was accessed 2026-10-03; plan prices, quotas, and terms can change. Microlink’s cited PDF guide gives a daily free-request allowance but does not state current paid plan prices in the reviewed passage.

|---|---|---|
| Microlink API | 25 free requests per day, according to its PDF guide. Current paid price: not stated in the cited passage. | The allowance and plan terms may change; check the linked guide and current plan details. |
| ScreenshotOne free | 100 free screenshots per month | The pricing page says only successful requests are billed. |
| ScreenshotOne Basic | $17/month for 2,000 screenshots | $0.009 per extra screenshot as displayed; extra usage is opt-in and subject to a monthly hard limit. |
| ScreenshotOne Growth | $79/month for 10,000 screenshots | $0.006 per extra screenshot as displayed; extra usage is opt-in and subject to a monthly hard limit. |
| ScreenshotOne Scale | $259/month for 50,000 screenshots | $0.004 per extra screenshot as displayed; extra usage is opt-in and subject to a monthly hard limit. |
ScreenshotOne’s listed prices exclude VAT. Its credits guide says, “Currently, everything costs 1 credit, be it a full-page screenshot, a scrolling screenshot, a PDF, or a video.” It also says credits reset monthly, unused credits do not roll over, and extra usage is off by default. Treat that policy as current documentation, not a permanent guarantee. See the credits guide and pricing page for live terms.
Which one should you choose?
Choose based on PDF layout needs
- Consider Microlink if paper format, margins, scale, page ranges, print-versus-screen styling, or the choice between a hosted PDF asset and direct PDF return are central to your workflow.
- Consider ScreenshotOne if you need documented controls for scroll-based full-page capture and alternative algorithms, or specifically want a screen-styled PDF fitted to a single page.
Test your target pages before committing
Run representative pages through both services if the choice depends on rendering quality. Include a long page, a page with lazy-loaded images, one with sticky elements, and one with animation if those occur in your workload. For PDFs, compare both a conventional print-oriented output and the single-page style only if both match your intended use. Inspect image completeness, clipping, sticky-header duplication, page breaks, and background colors.
Do not infer a universal winner for fidelity, latency, uptime, or value from feature lists. The available documentation does not include a same-page benchmark. For cost comparisons, first confirm Microlink’s current paid pricing and normalize billing units, overages, and required features against ScreenshotOne’s live terms.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a full-page screenshot be saved as a PDF?
Yes. Both services document PDF output; ScreenshotOne explicitly documents settings for a single-page PDF that resembles a full-page screenshot.
Best Value
Does a one-page PDF preserve readable text size?
Not necessarily. Fitting a long webpage onto one sheet can scale it down substantially; use a conventional paginated PDF when readability and printing matter more than a single-sheet layout.
Which service is faster or more reliable?
The cited documentation does not establish a same-page speed or reliability winner. Test representative pages with the settings and output format your application will use.
