To create an Open Graph image, make a relevant image for the specific page, publish it at a stable URL that sharing services can fetch, and add Open Graph metadata to that page’s HTML <head>. There is no India-specific Open Graph tag requirement established by the protocol: tailor the image’s language, visuals, and examples to the page’s intended audience instead.
What an Open Graph image does
Open Graph metadata describes a web page so it can be represented as a rich object when shared. The protocol requires four properties: og:title, og:type, og:image, and og:url. For an ordinary education website page, website is the protocol’s general example of an appropriate type; use a more specific type only when it fits the page. See the Open Graph Protocol.
The image is one part of the page’s sharing metadata, not a guarantee that every platform will display an identical preview. Make it recognizable at small preview sizes and representative of the destination page.
Choose an image that fits the page and its audience
Make each image page-specific
Use a visual that helps a prospective student, parent, teacher, or other intended reader identify the page’s subject. A course page might show a relevant learning scene; an admissions page might use imagery connected to the admissions process; an exam guide might depict a student’s preparation materials. These are design examples, not required categories. Avoid relying on the same generic site logo for every page.

Design for Indian readers without assuming one audience
Choose language, school imagery, and examples to match the particular page and its intended Indian audience. An English-language exam guide and a regional-language admissions page may need different text and imagery. These are editorial decisions: the Open Graph sources do not establish a special India-specific markup rule.
Keep the preview legible
Google’s image guidance recommends representative images, advises against generic logos and text in the image selected for og:image, and recommends avoiding extreme aspect ratios and using high resolution when possible. That guidance is useful when designing a share image, but it does not establish a universal Open Graph dimension. See Google’s Image SEO best practices.
Publish the image and add the metadata
-
Create an image that represents the page, then export it in a web-compatible format such as JPEG. The example below uses a 1200-by-630-pixel JPEG as an illustration, not as a universal requirement.
-
Upload the file to a stable, publicly fetchable URL. Check that the URL points to the intended image and remains available when the page is shared. The sources cited here do not specify platform-specific image-fetching, access, or caching rules.

<meta property="og:image:width" content="1200" />
<meta property="og:image:height" content="630" />
</head>
Describe the image, not its caption
og:image:alt is an optional structured property, but the protocol recommends specifying it when an og:image is present. Write a concise description of what the image contains; the protocol defines it as a description, not a caption. The protocol also supports the image’s MIME type, width, and height as optional properties. Those values should describe the actual file, not an intended export setting. See the protocol’s image properties.
Handle multiple candidate images deliberately
You can supply multiple og:image values, but do not add alternatives without considering their order. The protocol says the first image takes preference in conflicts. Put an image’s structured properties—such as its alt text, type, width, and height—after the corresponding root og:image tag and before the next root image declaration. See the Open Graph Protocol guidance on arrays.
Check the page and its share preview
-
Inspect the rendered page source and confirm the four required properties appear in the HTML head with the intended page title, type, image URL, and page URL.

Open the image URL directly and confirm it resolves to the intended image rather than an error page or a different asset.

Review the page’s resulting preview using the target sharing platform’s current preview or debugging facility. Tool names, availability, and validation behavior can change; verify the current platform-specific process directly rather than assuming one debugger works everywhere.
A screenshot of the web page can help you inspect its visible layout, but it does not validate how a social platform fetches or displays its Open Graph preview.
Or skip the browser setup:
To capture a visual screenshot of the rendered education page without setting up browser automation, make one API request. This captures the webpage itself; it is not a substitute for checking the sharing platform’s preview. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation.

The preview uses the wrong image
-
Check that the page’s
og:imagevalue points to the intended image URL, and that the image at that URL is the right file. -
If there are multiple image declarations, check their order: the first has preference in conflicts. Keep each image’s structured properties with the root image they describe.
-
Inspect the rendered page source to confirm the tags are actually present in the head of the page being shared.

The image URL does not show the intended asset
Open the URL and confirm it resolves to the correct image and remains publicly fetchable. Platform-specific access and caching behavior is not established by the sources cited here, so consult the target platform’s current guidance if the URL works in your browser but not in its preview.
The image is difficult to read in the preview
Revisit the image’s relevance, text use, aspect ratio, and resolution. Google advises against text in the image selected for og:image, extreme aspect ratios, and generic logos, and recommends high resolution where possible. There is no universal dimension established here; check the current guidance for the platform you care about before setting a hard size requirement.
The preview differs across services
Do not assume one platform’s preview or debugger establishes how another service will fetch or display the page. Verify the result with the target service’s current facility and consult its own current guidance for platform-specific requirements.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I rely on one preview debugger to confirm every social platform’s result?
No. Preview tools and validation behavior are platform-specific and can change. Check the current facility and guidance for each service where the page will be shared.
