Phone verification is required for YouTube live streaming, but completing it does not always unlock a first stream immediately. Check the intended channel’s status in YouTube Studio → Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility; if you have only just enabled live streaming for the first time, YouTube says a first mobile live stream may take up to 24 hours to become available. The documented sources do not establish a separate activation rule for Indian channels.
First, identify what is stuck
The right fix depends on whether YouTube has accepted your phone verification, whether live streaming is enabled for the correct channel, or whether you are trying to stream from a phone. A missing verification code is a different problem from a completed verification followed by an unavailable live feature.
- Code not received: phone verification has not been completed; use the verification options below.
- Code accepted, but live streaming is unavailable: check the channel’s Feature eligibility status and any restrictions.
- Trying to stream from mobile: mobile has an additional subscriber threshold and other eligibility requirements.

Check the correct channel’s feature status
- Open YouTube Studio for the channel you want to stream from.
- Go to Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility.
- Confirm you are signed in to the intended channel, then check whether live streaming is shown as enabled.
- If it is unavailable, review the page for any unmet requirements and check whether the channel has a live-streaming restriction.
Phone verification enables access to live streaming, but it does not override a channel restriction or other feature requirements. YouTube notes that feature eligibility can vary by feature. The status page is the useful source of truth for your channel, rather than the fact that a phone number was verified.

Allow time for a first activation
If this is the first time you have turned on live streaming, wait up to 24 hours before concluding that activation is stuck. YouTube’s mobile instructions state: “For your first mobile live stream: Starting your first live stream may take up to 24 hours.” This is an official maximum stated for starting a first mobile live stream, not a guarantee that every channel will activate within that period or a promise that all streaming methods follow identical timing. If you have already waited 24 hours and the feature still appears unavailable, continue with the eligibility checks below and contact YouTube through the escalation options. Community replies sometimes suggest waiting as long as 48 hours, but that is community advice, not a published YouTube activation deadline.

Check whether mobile requirements apply
The requirement depends on how you plan to stream. YouTube’s mobile live-streaming guidance lists these requirements:
- At least 50 subscribers.
- A verified channel.
- No live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days.
- Live streaming turned on.
The 50-subscriber threshold is for mobile live streaming; do not apply it automatically to a stream from a computer, webcam, or encoder. YouTube’s general live-streaming tips also call out verification and the absence of live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days.

If the phone verification code never arrived
These steps address code delivery, not a delay after YouTube has accepted your verification:
- Try the voice-call option if it is offered.
- Try a number from another mobile operator. YouTube notes that some operators may not support Google texts or calls, and messages can be delayed.
- Check whether the number has already been used to verify two channels during the year. YouTube’s limit is no more than two channels per phone number per year.
See YouTube’s channel verification guidance. If the code was accepted, repeating these steps will not diagnose a remaining feature-eligibility or activation issue.

What Indian creators should know
The official guidance reviewed does not describe a special India-only phone-verification rule, activation queue, or delay for ordinary live streaming. YouTube lists India among the countries where mobile Playables can be live-streamed, but that country listing is about Playables; it is not evidence of a separate rule for regular live streaming or an explanation for a stalled activation.

- Confirm the intended channel in Studio → Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility.
- Check the relevant format’s requirements and whether there is a live-streaming restriction.
- If this is the first activation, allow the official window of up to 24 hours for a first mobile stream.
- If access is still missing despite those checks, use YouTube’s Send feedback route. Contact Creator Support if it is available to your channel.
Include the channel you are using, the streaming method (mobile, webcam, or encoder), when you enabled live streaming, whether phone verification succeeded, and what Feature eligibility currently shows. YouTube’s public guidance does not give a guaranteed resolution time for an individual channel-status problem. Community guidance may suggest extra waiting or these contact routes, but it cannot confirm that a particular channel will be restored.
