Yes—you can live stream on YouTube from a computer with zero subscribers, provided your channel is verified, live streaming is enabled, you are at least 16, and you have no live-streaming restrictions from the past 90 days. YouTube’s mobile app is different: it requires at least 50 subscribers. If you have none, use a computer route such as webcam or encoder streaming.
Can I live stream on YouTube with no subscribers?
For computer streaming, YouTube’s official webcam and computer-streaming guidance does not specify a minimum subscriber count. The listed gates are channel verification, enabled live streaming, the age requirement, and no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. This applies whether you use your computer’s webcam or streaming encoder software. A USB webcam is optional if your computer does not have a suitable built-in camera; buying one does not change eligibility.
Does the YouTube mobile app require subscribers?
Yes. YouTube’s mobile live-streaming requirements call for at least 50 subscribers. A channel with zero subscribers therefore cannot use the YouTube mobile app to go live, even if it meets the other channel requirements. For channels with 50 to 999 subscribers, YouTube may limit the mobile audience and set the stream archive to private by default. After a channel reaches 1,000 subscribers, the audience limitation may take several weeks to be removed.

Channel verification and feature activation
Subscriber count is only one factor, and it applies differently by route. Verify the channel and turn on live streaming in YouTube Studio before planning a first broadcast. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so access may not be immediate. YouTube’s live-streaming overview explains how to enable the feature.

Recent live-stream restrictions
YouTube requires that the channel have had no live-streaming restrictions during the preceding 90 days. YouTube’s help page states: “To live stream, you must have no live streaming restrictions in the past 90 days and have a verified channel.” Check the channel’s current status in YouTube Studio rather than assuming that subscriber count is the only eligibility test.
Age requirement
The creator must be at least 16 years old to live stream. YouTube says this minimum took effect on July 22, 2025. Its guidance also sets conditions for under-16 participants appearing with an adult. Read YouTube’s guidance on avoiding live-stream restrictions for the applicable rules.

How to go live with zero subscribers
- Use a computer. Choose YouTube webcam streaming or a computer encoder; the mobile app’s 50-subscriber minimum does not apply to the computer route.
- Verify your channel. Complete YouTube’s channel verification process if you have not already done so.
- Check eligibility in YouTube Studio. Confirm live streaming is available and that the channel has no restriction from the past 90 days.
- Enable live streaming. Turn on the feature and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- Choose your computer method. Use the webcam option for a direct camera broadcast, or configure an encoder if your setup calls for one. Follow YouTube’s current on-screen setup instructions.
- Confirm you meet the age requirement. The creator must be at least 16; follow YouTube’s rules for any under-16 participant.
If YouTube says you cannot go live
- You have zero subscribers and are trying the phone app: switch to a computer webcam or encoder route. The mobile app requires 50 subscribers.
- Live streaming is not yet enabled: enable it in YouTube Studio and wait up to 24 hours for initial activation.
- The channel is unverified or shows a restriction: address the status indicated in YouTube Studio. A zero-subscriber count does not override verification or policy requirements.
- The creator is under 16: do not attempt to bypass the age requirement; consult YouTube’s rules for under-16 participants with an adult.
- A live-stream restriction is active: do not try to evade it by streaming through another channel. YouTube warns that circumventing a restriction can violate its terms and may lead to account termination.
