Create a separate YouTube event and use the correct destination and stream key for each output. YouTube’s stated limits are 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key, so check both limits before starting.
First decide whether you need two independent live events or one production in landscape and vertical formats. Those are different setups, and YouTube’s built-in dual-stream feature may handle the second without two independently produced programs.
Choose the right kind of two-stream setup

YouTube Help, accessed October 3, 2026, states a limit of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. Both limits apply at once. Two independent events fit within those ceilings if your channel and chosen keys have capacity remaining. These are YouTube’s stated limits; the pages reviewed do not display publication years.
Set up two independent events from the Azure VM
- Create both events. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule each event. Check the privacy setting, metadata, and intended destination for each one.
- Get each event’s ingestion details. For each event, copy its stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room. Keep the two sets clearly labeled so you do not send a feed to the wrong event.
- Configure two encoder outputs. Use an encoder that supports simultaneous outputs. Map output one to event one’s URL and key, and output two to event two’s URL and key. The exact controls vary by encoder. YouTube’s general encoder workflow does not certify a particular multi-output application or an Azure-specific configuration, so verify the chosen software’s current documentation and test the exact VM, operating system, drivers, and encoder together.
- Set and total the output bitrates. Choose a target bitrate for each output based on its codec, resolution, and frame rate. Add the two targets to get the combined outgoing bitrate, then plan for upload capacity around 1.5 to 2 times that combined target, following YouTube’s stability guidance.
- Test both outputs before the event. Start a test or scheduled preview and check that each event receives the intended picture and audio. Use representative motion and audio, then watch each event’s stream-health status while both outputs are running.
Do not assume that creating two events automatically creates two encoder outputs. The encoder must send each feed to the corresponding event destination and key.

Encoder settings and bandwidth planning
YouTube recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval, with keyframes no more than four seconds apart. Its bitrate guidance depends on codec, resolution, and frame rate. The following examples are YouTube-published recommendations, not guaranteed requirements for every stream:

Use the recommendations for each output’s actual codec and format, then add the outputs together. For example, two H.264 1080p60 outputs at YouTube’s 17 Mbps recommendation each have a combined target of 34 Mbps; applying YouTube’s 1.5–2× planning margin gives an upload target of 51–68 Mbps. YouTube’s example says a 10 Mbps combined target calls for 15–20 Mbps upload capacity. These recommendations are from YouTube Help pages accessed October 3, 2026; publication years are not shown.

- Measure available outbound capacity under realistic conditions, with both outputs active—not just the speed of one stream or a brief idle test.
- Allow headroom for audio, protocol overhead, fluctuations, and other traffic sharing the VM’s network path. The 1.5–2× figure is YouTube’s planning guidance, not a promise that a particular Azure route will sustain a given bitrate.
- Check both YouTube stream-health indicators during testing. If either feed reports instability, reduce its bitrate or improve the available network capacity before the live event.
Choose an Azure VM without assuming the GPU guarantees two encodes
Microsoft documents the NVadsA10 v5 family as GPU-optimized and describes GPU-accelerated rendering and remote-frame encoding for Azure Virtual Desktop. Its size information includes configurations from fractional A10 GPU allocations to full GPUs and lists expected maximum network bandwidth by size. Microsoft cautions that these figures are ceilings, not guaranteed throughput; actual results depend on congestion, workload, and network configuration.
Those specifications can help shortlist candidates, but they do not establish a VM size that is validated for two simultaneous YouTube encodes. In particular, Azure Virtual Desktop’s GPU guidance is not proof that a particular OBS or other encoder build can access a hardware encoder on your VM image and driver. Verify OS, driver, and encoder compatibility for the exact deployment. If hardware encoding is unavailable, measure whether the VM’s CPU can encode both outputs at the intended settings. No tested VM-size recommendation or performance benchmark is established here.

Protect the stream keys and operate the streams
- Keep keys private. YouTube describes stream keys as the password and address for an incoming stream. Do not publish them, place them in screenshots, or share them in public logs.
- Reset a compromised key. An owner or manager can reset a key in Live Control Room. Update the corresponding encoder output with the replacement key before resuming.
- Monitor both events independently. A healthy output does not prove the second output is healthy. Check the preview, audio, and stream-health messages for each event.
- Test before relying on the setup. YouTube recommends testing with representative motion and audio and monitoring stream health while live.
Troubleshoot common two-output problems
