To save a GST e-way bill as a PDF, open it through the official e-Way Bill System’s Print EWB option, then use your browser’s print dialog and choose Save as PDF. Check the saved file and store it in your organization’s approved records repository. This creates a PDF copy; by itself, it does not establish that your record-keeping meets every applicable legal requirement.
Download an e-way bill as a PDF

Sign in to the official e-Way Bill System and open the e-way bill’s print view. The system’s user manual places the option under the e-Waybill menu as Print EWB. Enter the e-way bill number, then use the displayed print action.

If the portal offers Detailed Print, select it when its displayed contents suit your record needs. The manual documents both print options but does not establish that one always contains more useful fields in every current version. It also says the print can be taken only by the generator and transporter.

With the bill or print view displayed, open the browser print dialog: press Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on Mac. Select Save as PDF as the destination if it is available, review the preview, and save the file. No physical printer or scanner is needed for this workflow.

Use a consistent filename so staff can find the file, for example
EWB_123456789012_2026-10-03_CounterpartyName.pdf. This is a suggested office convention, not a portal requirement. -
Reopen the PDF and verify that the e-way bill number, dates, parties, goods, and other required printed details are legible and present. Keep the exported file as the retained copy; if you need an annotated or redacted version, preserve the original separately.

File the PDF in your organization’s approved repository, following its access-control and backup policies. Chrome Help also describes uploading a saved PDF to Google Drive as a separate step; available destinations and labels can vary by device and organizational setup.
Find the print option and choose the right view
The National Informatics Centre’s e-Way Bill System User Manual, version 1.6, released 1 January 2023, documents the Print EWB path and a Detailed Print option. Since the manual predates later portal advisories, the current menu layout may differ. The portal homepage lists later dated updates, including one dated 27 January 2026; check current portal notices if the menu or workflow no longer matches the manual.

Choose between the standard and detailed print views by checking what the portal displays and whether it includes the fields your business needs. Inspect the resulting PDF rather than assuming either view will always include a particular layout or set of fields.
Store the PDF without overstating what it proves
A browser’s Save as PDF function creates a local PDF of the displayed print view. You can retain that file locally or upload it to a storage service under your organization’s policy. Consider who can access it, how staff will retrieve it, and whether it is backed up.

The cited portal and browser guidance does not establish that an independently created PDF, a cloud copy, or this export method alone satisfies every applicable GST record-keeping or evidentiary requirement. It also does not establish a retention period for this PDF. Check current official rules and your organization’s records policy for those obligations.
The official FAQ’s advice to generate a report daily and save it applies in the context of that report; it should not be read as a universal requirement to print every e-way bill or retain it using a particular PDF method.

You cannot see Print EWB: Confirm you are signed in to the official portal and using the account authorized to access the bill. The manual identifies the generator and transporter as users who can take the print. Portal labels may have changed since the manual’s 2023 release, so consult current portal notices if the menu differs.

The PDF is incomplete or hard to read: Reopen the portal print view, inspect the preview, and try the other available print option if it displays the fields you need. Save again and verify the resulting file before filing it.
