To keep two YouTube channels running different 24/7 video rotations, treat them as separate live destinations: create or select a distinct YouTube stream for each channel, then send each channel’s rotation to its matching stream through an encoder or playout system that can produce two independent feeds. YouTube’s cited guidance does not describe a built-in feature for independently rotating two uploaded video libraries as continuous live streams.
How the two-channel setup works
YouTube’s live-streaming model separates a broadcast from a stream. The broadcast is the watchable event; the stream is the incoming audio-video feed. For accounts with multiple channels, YouTube says to create a different stream for each channel. That means the two rotations need separate destinations, even if they share the same computer or production system.
The rotation itself is controlled upstream, in the encoder or playout workflow. Build Rotation A for Channel A and Rotation B for Channel B, then route each feed to its corresponding YouTube stream. Do not assume a normal YouTube channel playlist automatically becomes a continuous live rotation.
What to prepare before setup
- Two video rotations: Decide which videos belong on each channel and arrange them in the order and schedule you want.
- A playout or encoder workflow: It must be able to deliver the two intended feeds independently. YouTube’s documentation does not establish that every encoder can generate two independent outputs.
- Separate YouTube destinations: Each channel needs its own stream settings, including its stream URL and stream key.
- A monitoring plan: Be ready to preview each feed, check its channel and watch pages, and monitor audio and video after launch.
Set up the two rotations
1. Build each rotation in your playout system
Choose the videos for each channel and create a separate playlist or rotation in the software or hardware you have selected. Check the sequence, transitions, audio levels, and any schedule rules in that product. The exact controls vary by product and version; YouTube’s guidance does not prescribe third-party playlist settings.

2. Get the stream settings for each channel
- Open the appropriate channel’s YouTube Live Control Room.
- Create or select that channel’s stream settings and note its stream URL and stream key.
- Repeat for the second channel. Keep the two sets of destination details clearly labeled so that one rotation is not accidentally sent to the other channel.
YouTube describes stream keys as like a stream’s password and address. Keep them private, and do not paste one channel’s key into the other channel’s encoder configuration. Scheduled broadcasts may reuse settings, but verify the destination before starting each one.
3. Route each rotation to its matching stream
In your encoder or playout system, configure Rotation A to send to Channel A’s stream URL and key, and Rotation B to Channel B’s URL and key. If you are using one system for both, confirm it can maintain two independent outputs at once; the YouTube documentation does not confirm compatibility for any particular encoder. If you are using separate systems, label their channel assignments and check the destination settings on each.

4. Preview both channels before relying on them
- Start or preview Channel A’s feed and confirm that it shows Rotation A.
- Check the channel page and watch page, and verify that viewers can access the stream.
- Check the picture and sound, including that the intended audio is present and at a usable level.
- Repeat those checks independently for Channel B and Rotation B.
- After launch, monitor both streams so you can catch a wrong destination, missing feed, or audio/video problem.
YouTube recommends setting up the encoder in advance and previewing the stream. Professional-grade hardware encoders are recommended by YouTube for higher-production-value events, but hardware is not stated to be a requirement for running two rotations.
Choosing an encoder or playout approach
Before committing to a workflow, verify its actual capabilities rather than relying on a product label. Check whether it supports two independent outputs, separate rotation schedules, YouTube-compatible ingestion, unattended operation, monitoring or recovery, and an operating cost you can sustain. These are selection criteria, not verified capabilities of any particular product.

If you use YouTube’s API or schedule broadcasts, keep the concepts separate: a broadcast is the event viewers watch, while a stream is the incoming feed that can be bound to a broadcast. The API guide also describes a 24/7 feed example. For ordinary encoder setup, however, the practical requirement remains two distinct channel streams and correctly routed rotations.
