To save a page you can access behind a login, sign in through the site as usual, open the page, then use your browser’s Print command and choose its PDF destination. Open the saved file and check it: a PDF is a static rendering, so content that loads after scrolling or depends on interaction may be missing.
Save the signed-in page with your browser
- Sign in normally. Use the website’s standard login flow and open the exact page you are permitted to access. Do not put a password, session token, or other credential in a filename or notes.
- Let the page finish loading. Wait for its main content to appear. If the app loads more material as you scroll, scroll through the relevant sections before printing; even then, verify the result because print output may not include everything.
- Open Print. Use the browser’s print command and select the PDF-saving destination, such as Save as PDF if offered. Exact menu names and destinations vary by browser and operating system; the cited guidance supports the general Print-to-PDF method, not a specific current menu path. Her Justice’s May 2019 evidence-preservation appendix describes the general approach.
- Save the file privately. Choose a descriptive filename that does not expose sensitive information, and store it where access is appropriate for the content.
- Inspect the PDF. Reopen it and check the expected text, tables, images, page breaks, and final sections. If important material is absent, try printing after scrolling or consider a browser-based web archive for a different kind of preservation.
What a PDF does—and does not—preserve
A PDF is useful as a readable, portable record of the printed page. It does not preserve the live app, its behavior, or a replayable copy of all the underlying web resources. Interactive controls, content that appears only after an action, and material not loaded at print time can be omitted. Treat the PDF as complete only after checking it against what you needed to preserve.
When browser-based web archiving may fit better
If interaction or replay of captured web content matters more than a simple static document, Webrecorder describes two browser-based options. ArchiveWeb.page records pages as a user browses, and Browsertrix describes crawling content behind logins with an active browser profile. These are vendor-described capabilities, not a guarantee that every app, multifactor authentication flow, or protected resource will capture successfully. Verify the resulting archive and confirm you are allowed to retain the material.
A WACZ package serves a distinct purpose: it packages WARC archive data with indexes and a manifest so archived pages can be looked up and replayed. Choose that kind of archive when preserving web resources and replay context is important; it is not a substitute for a convenient PDF document.

Troubleshoot an incomplete or unusable PDF
- Sections are missing: the app may load content as you scroll or after interaction. Load the needed sections before printing, then inspect the output. If it still omits essential content, investigate a browser-recording archive, subject to compatibility.
- The page appears blank or partly loaded: wait until the content settles and print again. Check that the browser still shows the signed-in page before invoking Print.
- Images or tables are absent or split: inspect the PDF page by page and adjust the browser’s available print settings if needed. There is no guarantee that every app renders identically in print.
- You need to revisit the page as it behaved: a PDF cannot provide live interaction. Consider a web archive designed for replay, and verify that it captured the resources and flows you care about.
- A login or multifactor flow blocks automated capture: the cited vendor descriptions do not establish that every authentication setup works. Use the normal browser session for a manual capture or test the archive workflow on the specific app before relying on it.
