Both offer hosted APIs for capturing an entire webpage, but they take different approaches to long pages and expose different controls. Neither is a universal winner: test both against your own pages, especially long pages and pages with lazy-loaded or sticky content, before choosing.
How Browshot and Urlbox capture full pages
Both services support full-page website screenshots. Urlbox uses the full_page option; Browshot uses size=page. The main practical difference is Urlbox’s documented choice between stitching and native browser capture, while Browshot’s public feature material emphasizes browser, device, and geographic options.
Urlbox: stitch mode or native mode
Urlbox’s default stitch method scrolls through the page, captures multiple sections, then stitches them together. Urlbox describes this mode as accounting for lazy-loaded content and fixed or sticky elements. It normally scrolls to the bottom first so content can load and the final page height can be estimated. The skip_scroll option disables that behavior and may reduce render time, depending on page height.
Urlbox also documents a native mode that uses the browser’s native full-page capture. It is faster according to the vendor, but Urlbox warns that it may not work well on every website. Treat that as a setting to test on your pages, not an assumption that native capture will be faster and equally accurate in every case. Browshot: page-size capture
Browshot’s API documentation uses size=page for full-page capture and states that full-page screenshots can be up to 15,000 pixels high. Its request options include a post-load delay, viewport dimensions, a maximum wait, custom headers, cookies, POST data for paid screenshots, scripts, and CSS-selector targeting. The documentation endpoints retrieved for this comparison show different supported ranges for delay, so verify the current reference for the endpoint and instance you plan to use. Long pages, lazy loading, and image limits
A full-page flag or page-size option does not by itself guarantee that every part of a long page will look right. Lazy-loaded images may not exist in the page until scrolling triggers them; sticky elements can appear repeatedly in stitched sections or cover content; infinite-scroll pages may keep growing. Test the actual page states and output dimensions your workflow requires.
Urlbox’s section and scroll controls
Urlbox documents controls including scroll_increment, scroll_delay, max_sections, max_section_height, allow_infinite, max_height, scroll_to, and full_width. The default maximum height of each stitched section is documented as 4,096 pixels. Urlbox also describes adjusting for full-height backgrounds to avoid distortion, with a 1,024-pixel maximum section and viewport in the detected scenario. These are vendor-documented behaviors; check the current documentation and inspect the resulting image for your layout.

Output format matters for very tall captures. Urlbox documents maximum dimensions of 65,535 × 65,535 pixels for JPEG and 16,383 × 16,383 pixels for WebP, and recommends PNG for full-page captures where those limits are relevant. Confirm the current format limits and the image dimensions your consumers can handle before selecting a format.

Browshot documents full-page output up to 15,000 pixels high. Its post-load delay can allow scripts and images more time to settle, while max_wait bounds how long a request waits. The documentation gives a five-second default delay, but the supported ranges vary across documentation endpoints; use the reference for the API endpoint and instance you will actually call. For pages with lazy images, selector targeting or a script may be useful, but verify that the target content has loaded in the returned capture.

Browshot documents API access and libraries for Perl, Python, and Ruby. It also documents screenshot status lookup and retrieval, plus an optional callback hook for completed or failed captures. That can suit workflows that submit a capture and handle the result later. Its feature page also describes hosted screenshots and thumbnails, S3 upload, and private browser instances. Urlbox says render accounting can depend on render duration, file size, and advanced features, so the headline render allowance may not equal the number of complex full-page jobs you can run.

- Estimate monthly unique page captures and any recaptures or retries.
- Include your real mix of short pages, long pages, lazy-loaded pages, and any premium browser or location requirements.
- Check each vendor’s current accounting rules and plan terms; distinguish a render allowance from a credit-based charge.
- Run a small representative evaluation and inspect both visual output and actual account usage before committing to a recurring workload.
How to choose without a universal winner
Use a trial workload rather than a feature list alone. Include at least one long page and one page with lazy-loaded or sticky content; if infinite scroll or geographic rendering matters, include those cases too. Keep viewport, output format, and page state comparable, then inspect the full image for missing content, duplicated sticky elements, clipping, and unexpected height.
