Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →A YouTube channel-permission change does not, by itself, appear in YouTube’s public guidance as a reason a stream key is automatically invalidated. Check channel access and stream-key state separately: make sure the right channel is selected, confirm the account still has live-stream access, then copy the current key from YouTube Studio into your encoder. If you reset the key, replace the old one in the encoder.
1. Confirm the account and channel
First make sure the encoder or person managing the stream is connected to the intended YouTube channel. A Google account can have access to more than one channel, so a valid key for a different channel will not solve a channel-selection mismatch.
In YouTube Studio, verify which channel is active and whether the account used by your workflow still has permission to manage or start its live stream. YouTube documents livePermissionBlocked as an insufficient-live-permission error; that is an access issue, not proof that a stream key is invalid. See YouTube’s Live Streaming API error reference.
If you use delegated channel access, ask the channel owner or manager to check the current role and its live-stream capabilities. YouTube’s role permissions can differ, and some delegated roles have restricted access to stream settings. The current channel-permissions reference is at YouTube channel permissions.

- POWERFUL SECURITY KEY: The Security Key C NFC is the essential physical passkey for protecting your digital life from phishing attacks. It ensures only you can access your accounts.

- FAST & CONVENIENT LOGIN: Plug in your Security Key C NFC via USB-C and tap it, or tap it against your phone (NFC) to authenticate. No batteries, no internet connection, and no extra fees required.
- TRUSTED PASSKEY TECHNOLOGY: Uses the latest passkey standards (FIDO2/WebAuthn & FIDO U2F) but does not support One-Time Passwords. For complex needs, check out the YubiKey 5 Series.
- BUILT TO LAST: Made from tough, waterproof, and crush-resistant materials. Manufactured in Sweden and programmed in the USA with the highest security standards.
2. Check that the channel is eligible to livestream
A current key cannot overcome a channel-level restriction. YouTube’s general requirements say a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days. Check YouTube Studio for any restriction or eligibility notice before changing encoder settings. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
3. Copy the current stream key into the encoder
YouTube describes stream keys as the credential that tells an encoder where to send its feed and lets YouTube accept it. In YouTube Studio, use Create → Go Live → Stream, find Stream key, and copy the key for the intended channel. Paste it into the encoder’s stream-key field, replacing the saved value, then save or apply the encoder settings.

- POWERFUL SECURITY KEY: The YubiKey 5C NFC is the most versatile physical passkey, protecting your digital life from phishing attacks. It ensures only you can access your accounts
- WORKS WITH 1000+ ACCOUNTS: Compatible with popular accounts like Google, Microsoft, and Apple. A single YubiKey 5C NFC secures 100+ of your favorite accounts, including email, password managers, and more
- FAST & CONVENIENT LOGIN: Plug in your YubiKey 5C NFC via USB and tap it, or tap it against your phone (NFC), to authenticate. No batteries, no internet connection, and no extra fees required
- MOST SECURE PASSKEY: Supports FIDO2/WebAuthn, FIDO U2F, Yubico OTP, OATH-TOTP/HOTP, Smart card (PIV), and OpenPGP. That means it’s versatile, working almost anywhere you need it
- PRIMARY & SPARE KEYS: Just like having a spare house key, we recommend buying two YubiKeys - one for daily use and one as a spare. That way you’ll never get locked out of your accounts
Do not share the key publicly: treat it like a password for sending a stream to your channel. YouTube’s instructions for managing it are in Manage live stream settings.
If you reset the key
A reset generates a replacement key. Immediately update the encoder with that new value; an encoder still using the previous key will not be sending with the replacement credential. YouTube says owners and managers can reset stream keys, while editors and viewers cannot. If you lack the required role, ask an owner or manager to perform the reset and provide the replacement securely.

4. Identify whether your software uses a key or direct sign-in
These are different connection methods. If you configure an encoder with a stream key, refresh that key as described above. If you sign in to YouTube from third-party software and do not enter a stream key, YouTube directs users to the software provider’s support team for sign-in integration problems. Do not reset keys as a substitute for troubleshooting a direct-sign-in connection.
5. Check the encoder and connection
Once channel access and the current key are confirmed, check that the encoder is updated and that its output is actually running. Compare its status with the incoming stream shown in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the encoder and internet connection; if a connection test indicates a problem, contact your internet provider. Follow YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting steps.

6. Troubleshoot by symptom
| What you see | Likely area to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
livePermissionBlocked or a permission warning |
Account role, selected channel, or live eligibility | Verify the active channel and account access; check for a livestream restriction. A key reset alone does not grant live permission. |
| Encoder rejects the key or YouTube does not receive the feed | Wrong, outdated, or mismatched key | Copy the current key from the intended channel’s Live Control Room and replace the encoder’s saved key. |
| The key was reset but streaming still fails | Encoder still has the old key | Update the encoder with the replacement key and save the setting. |
| Encoder appears to run, but YouTube shows no incoming stream | Encoder output, software version, or outbound network connection | Inspect encoder status and YouTube’s Live Control Room; test the connection and contact your internet provider if the test shows network trouble. |
| You connect by signing in rather than entering a key | Third-party sign-in integration | Contact the encoder software’s support team rather than following key-reset steps. |
7. When to contact support
If you have verified channel selection, live access and eligibility, updated the encoder with the current key, and checked the encoder and network, contact YouTube through its live-stream support route. Include the exact error message, the active channel, whether the workflow uses a key or direct sign-in, and what checks you have completed. For direct-sign-in failures, contact the encoder vendor.
