A 24/7 YouTube stream on a Ryzen 7 mini PC can cost only a few dollars a month in electricity, but the exact bill depends on the whole system’s average power draw and your electricity rate. At a dated U.S. benchmark of 18.56¢ per kWh, a continuous 20-watt load works out to about $2.67 for exactly 30 days, or about $32.50 per year. Those are calculations, not measurements of a Ryzen mini PC streaming live; meter your own setup at the wall for a reliable estimate.
Estimate the electricity cost
Use average wall power for the complete setup—not the processor’s advertised TDP. The calculation is:
- Monthly energy: average watts ÷ 1,000 × hours in the month.
- Monthly cost: monthly energy in kWh × your electricity rate per kWh.
- Annual cost: average watts ÷ 1,000 × 8,760 × your rate per kWh.
The examples below use a 30-day month (720 hours) and the U.S. average residential rate of 18.56¢/kWh reported for March 2026. This is a historical benchmark, not a current or universal tariff. Substitute the marginal kWh rate on your own bill. Monthly figures use exactly 30 days; annual figures use 8,760 hours.
| Average whole-system draw | Energy in 30 days | Cost in 30 days at 18.56¢/kWh | Cost in one year at 18.56¢/kWh |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 W | 7.2 kWh | About $1.34 | About $16.25 |
| 20 W | 14.4 kWh | About $2.67 | About $32.50 |
| 30 W | 21.6 kWh | About $4.01 | About $48.75 |
These are arithmetic scenarios, not a tested streaming range. Rounding and the different month-length conventions explain small differences between a 30-day monthly estimate and an annual cost divided by 12. The 18.56¢ benchmark is reported by Starry Hope from EIA Electric Power Monthly data for March 2026.

What Ryzen 7 mini PC power readings can tell you
Published readings illustrate why a single “streaming wattage” figure would be misleading. In a short idle test, Notebookcheck measured the Beelink SER8 with a Ryzen 7 8845HS and integrated Radeon 780M at about 7.13 W average with an external monitor. In separate, demanding tests it measured 68.2 W average and 84.3 W maximum. Those load figures are not measurements of a YouTube stream. Notebookcheck’s 2024 SER8 review describes its test setup and results.
Other SER8 figures differ: ComputerBase reports roughly 11 W idle, around 35 W in a light single-core benchmark, and up to around 82 W in stronger application workloads in its tested configuration. IdleWatt’s database lists 11 W idle and 72 W load as community data. These measurements use different methods, configurations, and workloads; none establishes a universal draw for Ryzen 7 mini PCs or a continuous livestream. See ComputerBase’s SER8 review and IdleWatt’s SER8 entries.
Measure your own 24/7 setup
- Connect a plug-in watt meter between the wall outlet and the mini PC’s power supply. Measure the whole mini PC at the wall; do not infer its consumption from CPU specifications or a software reading alone.
- Run the actual stream configuration. Use the resolution, frame rate, encoder, playback, and other software you expect to leave running. Include attached displays or peripherals in the measurement if they will remain powered during the stream.
- Record average watts over a representative period. A brief reading may miss changes in workload. A meter that records energy over time can help you calculate an average: total measured kWh ÷ measurement hours × 1,000 = average watts.
- Apply your tariff. Multiply average watts ÷ 1,000 × 24 × 30 by your local rate for a 30-day estimate, or by 8,760 hours and the rate for an annual estimate.
Playback, hardware or software encoding, resolution, frame rate, effects, browser sources, background services, displays, and firmware power profiles can all change consumption. AMD’s power-efficiency calculator explanation likewise frames energy comparisons around the selected system, power preference, and hours of use; it is not a substitute for measuring your own stream.
Stream settings affect workload, not the electricity formula
YouTube’s recommended ingest settings vary by codec, resolution, and frame rate. For H.264, YouTube lists 17 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps and 50 Mbps for 4K at 60 fps, and recommends RTMPS for ingest. These are stream configuration and upload-capacity recommendations—not wattage readings or inputs to the electricity calculation. Consult YouTube’s live encoder settings for the current table.

To send a stream, YouTube’s encoder setup flow requires the Live server URL and stream key in the encoder. Keep the key private. YouTube also says archived streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume one uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast will become one archived video. Check YouTube’s current account eligibility and live-stream rules before going live. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain the connection details.

The figures above cover electricity for the measured equipment only. They do not include the mini PC’s purchase price, internet service, cooling, replacement parts, or the cost of downtime. Keep those separate when considering total cost of ownership: the available SER8 readings are not a controlled comparison of mini PCs running the same continuous YouTube stream, so they cannot establish which model is cheaper to stream on.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you would rather not keep a mini PC running at home, StreamNeo keeps a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live; StreamNeo loops the video from the cloud. It does not stream from a camera.
There is no computer or home connection that has to stay on. Uploaded quality is used as-is up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo also offers daily, weekly, six-month, and yearly billing; the same features are included on every plan. Each slot includes 10 GB of storage, pooled across active slots.
