Choose Abstract’s Website Screenshot API when a managed REST request can capture the URL or HTML you need with its documented controls. Choose Puppeteer when taking a screenshot is part of a larger browser-automation workflow that needs code-driven page interaction. Neither option is established as faster, cheaper, more reliable, or more visually accurate in a controlled head-to-head comparison.
How the two approaches work
Abstract: request a screenshot from a hosted API
Abstract describes its Website Screenshot API as a REST service that turns a URL or supplied HTML into an image. You send a request with capture settings and receive image output. Its product page documents image-format choices, viewport and dimension controls, custom CSS injection, and delayed capture timing. See Abstract’s Website Screenshot API and its API documentation index for current details.
This approach fits a workflow where your application needs an image and the provider’s request options cover the page state and output you require. The trade-off is that the capture workflow is bounded by the service’s exposed controls.
Puppeteer: capture from a browser page your code controls
Puppeteer is a browser automation library. Its Page API includes a screenshot method as well as methods for interacting with the page, making it a better fit when capture is one stage in a broader scripted browser workflow. Consult the current Page.screenshot() documentation and Page API for supported options; the official pages reviewed displayed version 25.12.0.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Unlike a single hosted capture request, a Puppeteer workflow means your code is responsible for the browser session and the interactions needed to reach the desired state before capture.
Which should you choose?
| Need | Better starting point | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Capture a URL or raw HTML using a REST integration | Abstract | Its documented service accepts a URL or HTML and exposes image and timing controls. |
| Interact with a page in code as part of a larger automation flow | Puppeteer | Its Page API covers browser-page interaction in addition to screenshots. |
| The API’s listed controls may not cover the page state you need | Evaluate Puppeteer | Direct browser-page automation may let your code perform the necessary interactions; verify the exact workflow against current APIs. |
| You want a hosted screenshot API with clean-capture handling | ScreenshotNeo | It accepts one GET request and removes cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets before capture; only clean shots are billed. |
Before committing, write down the required URL or HTML input, page state, output format, viewport, timing, authentication, and interactions. Check Abstract’s documented request controls against that list. If reaching the right state requires browser actions beyond a capture request, evaluate Puppeteer. This is a capability-based choice, not a performance or total-cost verdict.

What is established about price and service commitments?
Abstract’s product page displayed a Free tier with 100 requests and a rate limit of 1 request per second. Its Standard option displayed $99 per month billed annually, 60,000 requests per year, and 3 requests per second; the monthly billing view displayed 60,000 requests per month. These are volatile page terms, and the differing annual and monthly displays make it important to check the live plan selector and billing interval before purchase.
Abstract states that its enterprise plans include a 99.99% uptime SLA, SSO/SAML, 24/7 support, and onboarding/account support. The SLA is Abstract’s vendor-stated enterprise commitment, not independently measured uptime, and should not be applied to other plans. The reviewed Puppeteer documentation describes API functionality but does not establish a comparable service-level commitment or operating cost.

Or skip the browser setup
If the job is simply to request a screenshot, ScreenshotNeo offers a hosted endpoint rather than a browser workflow you must assemble. Its clean-capture steps can accept cookie and consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks/CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, with the page verdict and billing status reported in response headers. It also provides an MCP server with take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents and other MCP clients.

What the comparison cannot tell you
The official Abstract and Puppeteer pages establish different product scopes and documented capabilities, not how either will perform on your site, under your browser or network conditions, or at your volume. No controlled head-to-head benchmark is established by those sources. Test your own pages and required interactions before treating either option as a fit.
