If an Abstract Screenshot API image shows only the visible browser area, first check that the request actually enables full-page capture. A viewport-sized image is not the same as a full-page screenshot. Abstract’s older Python SDK documents a capture_full_page argument, but that does not establish the current REST API’s parameter name or default. Verify the exact syntax in Abstract’s current documentation before changing your request.

Why an Abstract screenshot may look cut off

A screenshot can be limited to the configured viewport, or it can capture the page beyond that visible area. If the returned image ends at the viewport boundary, check the requested capture scope first. If it ends at a section within the page, the page may not have finished rendering when the capture happened, or the behavior may be specific to that page. The title alone cannot establish which explanation applies.

Abstract describes its Website Screenshot API as a REST service that turns a URL or raw HTML into an image. Its product page says the service supports viewport or dimension controls, image formats, capture timing, and CSS injection. These options can affect what appears in an image, but they do not identify the cause of a particular truncation.

Check the request and full-page option

  1. Inspect the actual outgoing request, including its URL and query parameters or JSON body. Do not rely only on the setting in your application that is meant to enable full-page capture.
  2. Compare the full-page option’s exact name and accepted value with Abstract’s current REST API documentation. Do not assume that a key from an SDK is also the REST API’s key.
  3. Record the configured viewport width and height, then compare them with the returned image dimensions. An image that matches the viewport dimensions may indicate a viewport capture, but dimensions alone do not prove the cause.
  4. Check the response status and any error details, and confirm that the requested target URL is the one you intended to capture.

Abstract’s Python SDK 1.0.0 reference lists capture_full_page among its capture arguments and says its default is true in that SDK version. That is SDK-specific evidence, not confirmation of the current REST parameter spelling or default. Do not translate it into a guessed REST key such as full_page or fullPage. See the SDK reference, then confirm the live REST contract with Abstract’s API documentation.

Allow time for the page to render

If the full-page request is correct but content is still missing, investigate timing. Abstract says its API supports capture delays and custom timing. Use the timing control documented for your current API integration to allow the page to settle, then compare the result. There is no universally correct delay established here, so avoid treating a particular number of seconds as a guaranteed fix.

To narrow down the issue, try a simple, stable page with the same request settings, then compare it with the affected page. Note whether the missing content appears only after interaction or loading. This test can help determine whether the issue follows the request or the page, but it does not by itself prove a cause.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Abstract’s full-page option default to true?

The Abstract Python SDK 1.0.0 reference says capture_full_page defaults to true for that SDK version. It does not establish the current REST API’s default.

What exact REST parameter enables full-page capture?

The available Abstract product page does not establish the current REST parameter name. Check Abstract’s current documentation rather than copying an SDK argument or guessing a REST key.
