The Streamlabs Plugin for OBS adds Streamlabs alerts, widgets, overlays, chat tools, and other features directly to OBS Studio. It suits creators who want to keep their OBS workflow rather than switch to Streamlabs Desktop or build each widget as a browser source. Streamlabs’ current setup guide specifies Windows and OBS Studio 28.0.0 or later; check the official plugin page and setup guide for current availability and details.
What the Streamlabs Plugin adds to OBS
The plugin brings selected Streamlabs services into OBS Studio, including alerts and widgets, overlay browsing, activity and chat docks, Cloudbot, tipping tools, and Stream Labels. It is a way to add Streamlabs features while keeping OBS as the application where you build and run your scenes.
Alerts and widgets
From the Streamlabs menu in OBS, you can add widgets such as Alert Box, Chat Box, and Event Lists. Widget settings open in a browser window for editing. After adding an alert, use Test Events to check that it appears as expected. If it is hidden behind gameplay or another source, move the widget source higher in OBS’s Sources list.
Overlays and themes
The plugin lets you browse and add overlays from Streamlabs’ library. Streamlabs says the library includes hundreds of free overlays and widget themes; premium options require Ultra. Its guide also describes thousands of professionally designed animated overlays, alerts, and transitions. These are vendor-reported library counts, not independently verified totals. Some overlay changes may require restarting OBS.

Activity Feed, chat, and Cloudbot
You can add Streamlabs Activity Feed and Streamlabs Chat docks and position them within OBS. Cloudbot adds moderation and chat-engagement options. Streamlabs documents filters for caps, emotes, paragraphs, links, symbols, and words, as well as features such as giveaways and minigames.
Tipping and Stream Labels
The plugin includes tipping setup and Stream Labels. To add a label, use Streamlabs > Stream Labels and choose the label you want. The plugin approach avoids the need to run a separate labels program.

Reactive Overlays and Game Pulse
The product page and quick-start guide identify Reactive Overlays and the Game Pulse Widget as Vision features. Streamlabs describes Game Pulse as triggering graphics and sound effects in response to gameplay events. That is the vendor’s feature description, not an independently tested guarantee of behavior in every game or setup.
Multistreaming
Streamlabs says server-side multistreaming through the plugin requires Ultra. Do not assume that the free plugin includes this capability; check Streamlabs’ current plan details before subscribing.

Requirements and setup
Streamlabs’ quick-start guide, published May 20, 2026 and last updated October 1, 2026, specifies Windows and OBS Studio 28.0.0 or later. Labels and menu placement can change between software releases, so consult the guide if your screens differ.
- Download and install: Get the Streamlabs Plugin from the official plugin page and run its installer.
- Open OBS and complete onboarding: Launch OBS Studio and follow the Streamlabs plugin onboarding prompts.
- Add a widget: Choose Streamlabs > Widgets, select a widget, then choose Add.
- Place and configure it: In OBS, position and size the widget source. If alerts should appear above gameplay, move the source to the top of the Sources list. Open the widget settings to edit them in the browser window.
- Test the result: Use Test Events to trigger sample alerts and confirm their visibility, timing, and placement in your scene.
For overlays, browse the library from the plugin and add the design you want. If the change does not appear, restart OBS as the guide advises for some changes. To enable Vision features, use the plugin’s Vision options and add the desired Reactive Overlay or Game Pulse option.

Is the Streamlabs Plugin free?
Streamlabs says the plugin is free to download and use. That does not mean every item or capability is free: premium overlays and server-side multistreaming are identified as Ultra features. The guide also places professional animated overlay and theme options among subscription features. Many listed tools—including alerts, widgets, Cloudbot, tipping, Stream Labels, recent events, media share, and chat moderation—are accessible through the plugin. Streamlabs’ current subscription price was not established here, so verify it on the official site before deciding.

Choose the plugin if you already prefer OBS Studio and want Streamlabs tools available within that workflow. Consider Streamlabs Desktop if you want Streamlabs’ all-in-one environment or need features Streamlabs identifies as Desktop-only, including Dual Output, Collab Cam, and Shared Storage. The right choice depends on whether keeping OBS or moving to an integrated Streamlabs application matters more to you.
