To keep a recorded property walkthrough live on YouTube continuously, use an encoder workflow: play the video or playlist in software, on a hardware encoder, or through a cloud service, and send its feed to YouTube Live. For an unattended stream, confirm that your chosen option supports looping and recovery, then test the full setup before relying on it. You do not need a camera for this workflow; the source is your recorded footage.

What you need before going live

  • A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours. The channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days; YouTube’s getting-started guidance says streamers must be at least 16. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.
  • A playback and encoding option that can send video to YouTube Live and loop the walkthrough for the intended run time.
  • A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the stream plus headroom.
  • Permission to publish the footage, audio, and any identifiable people or property shown.

Choose how to play and encode the walkthrough

YouTube supports encoder-based live streams, with encoders available as software or standalone hardware. Its encoder guide also lists products for continuous and prerecorded streams, including a cloud tool described for 24/7 prerecorded video. Those listings are options to investigate, not a guarantee that a particular product will loop a chosen playlist indefinitely. YouTube notes that listed encoder products are not made by YouTube. Check the vendor’s current documentation for looping, restart behavior, monitoring, ingestion compatibility, and unattended operating limits. YouTube’s encoder guide

Software on a computer

Streaming software can play a local video or playlist and encode its output for YouTube. The computer and connection must remain available throughout the broadcast. Before choosing software, verify that it can repeat the media as intended and recover cleanly if playback or the stream is interrupted.

Standalone hardware

A hardware encoder is a dedicated device that sends a feed to YouTube. YouTube lists products such as the Blackmagic Web Presenter 4K among verified hardware encoders, but the cited guidance does not say dedicated hardware is necessary for prerecorded property tours. Confirm that a device can take your recorded-video source and support the continuous playback workflow you need.

Cloud service

A cloud service can host playback and delivery without requiring your home computer to stay on. Confirm that it supports YouTube ingestion, continuous looping, recovery, and the video quality you plan to use. For YouTube-only prerecorded-video looping, StreamNeo is the first option to consider: it runs continuously from the cloud, accepts uploaded video at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and gives you a free first day.

Set up the YouTube stream and encoder

  1. Enable and check the channel. Verify the channel and enable live streaming in YouTube. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours. Check that the channel has no live-streaming restriction from the previous 90 days and that the streamer meets YouTube’s age requirement.
  2. Create a stream in YouTube Studio. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule the stream. Copy the stream URL and stream key into your encoder’s YouTube destination settings. The key identifies the destination and authorizes YouTube to accept the feed; treat it like a password and do not share or publish it. YouTube’s encoder guide explains the setup at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
  3. Select the ingestion protocol and video settings. YouTube recommends RTMPS. For H.264, its recommended video bitrates are 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 frames per second and 6 Mbps for 1080p at 60 frames per second. Use constant bitrate (CBR) and set the keyframe interval to two seconds; do not exceed four seconds. YouTube’s available codec and protocol options depend on the configuration. Follow its current settings guidance for the chosen combination: YouTube Live encoder settings.
  4. Configure repeat playback. Add the walkthrough file or playlist as the encoder’s source and enable looping. If the service offers restart or recovery settings, configure and test them. YouTube’s documentation establishes that encoder workflows can be used for continuous streams, but it does not promise that every encoder will repeat media or restart unattended.
  5. Check upload capacity. YouTube recommends 20% bandwidth headroom above the stream’s bitrate. Allow for other devices using the connection and any backup feed you plan to send. A bitrate that fits the connection only under ideal conditions leaves little margin for fluctuations.
  6. Test the complete stream. Play representative footage with its actual audio, inspect the Live Control Room preview, and check the live page. Monitor stream health and audio/video quality before leaving the stream unattended. YouTube recommends testing with representative movement and audio and checking the preview and stream health: YouTube streaming tips.

Rights, privacy, and Canadian property footage

Having a recording does not automatically mean you have the rights needed to livestream it. YouTube’s livestream terms require the streamer to have the rights necessary to exploit the live content on Google services worldwide, including music rights, and to comply with applicable laws. Read the YouTube Livestream terms and conditions.

For a Canadian property walkthrough, obtain appropriate permission for the property and for people whose image, voice, or personal information appears. Requirements can depend on the province or territory, the property, and the circumstances of the recording. Common problems and fixes

Symptom Likely cause What to check
You cannot start a live stream Live streaming is not enabled, the channel is not verified, a restriction applies, or first-time activation is still processing. Check channel verification and live-streaming eligibility in YouTube Studio. First-time enablement may take up to 24 hours.
YouTube does not receive the encoder feed The stream URL, key, destination, or protocol is incorrect, or the encoder is not sending. Recheck the copied YouTube URL and key, confirm the encoder’s destination settings, and verify RTMPS compatibility. Keep the key private.
Playback stops at the end of the video Looping is disabled or the selected tool does not support the repeat behavior required. Enable looping and test at least one full repeat before leaving the stream unattended. Verify restart behavior with the vendor.
The preview or stream is unstable Upload bandwidth may be insufficient or fluctuating, or the stream settings may not match the encoder output. Check stream health, confirm resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, CBR, and keyframe interval, and leave YouTube’s recommended 20% upload headroom.
Audio or video is missing or wrong The encoder may be using the wrong source, audio input, or output configuration. Test with the actual walkthrough and its intended audio. Inspect both the Live Control Room preview and the live page before running continuously.
The stream is interrupted and does not resume The encoder, computer, network, or service may not support automatic recovery as configured. Test interruption and recovery behavior before relying on unattended operation; check the encoder or service’s recovery controls and monitoring options.
