In OBS, add a Media Source and enable Loop for one clip; use a VLC Video source with Loop Playlist for several clips. YouTube receives this as a live encoder stream—not as a regular video upload.
Before you set up the loop
- OBS Studio: Install OBS on the computer that will play and encode the demo. OBS documents Media Sources for Windows, macOS, and Linux. OBS Media Sources
- A prepared video: Have the booth recording available as a local video file. For a playlist, install VLC as well; VLC Video may not appear in OBS without it. With 64-bit OBS, the OBS documentation specifies 64-bit VLC.
- YouTube Live access: The channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube says enabling live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours, so check access well before the event. YouTube live-streaming tips
- Rights and permissions: Confirm you are allowed to stream every part of the recording, including music, logos, video, and people shown. A YouTube settings page flags audio and video rights for stream trailers, but that is not a complete rights determination for your demo. Manage live stream settings
Choose a single clip or a playlist
| What you want to repeat | OBS source | Repeat setting | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| One video file | Media Source | Loop | The local video file |
| A sequence of video files | VLC Video | Loop Playlist | VLC installed; match its architecture to OBS |
For a single demo, Media Source is the straightforward choice. If the booth presentation has separate clips that should play in order, use VLC Video and make a playlist. Consider how the final clip returns to the first: editing the beginning and end to make that transition less abrupt is production advice, not an OBS or YouTube feature guarantee.
Set up OBS to repeat the demo
For one recorded video
- Open OBS and select or create the scene that will carry the booth demo.
- In the Sources panel, add a Media Source and choose the local video file.
- Enable the source’s Loop option.
- Check the canvas and audio meters. Adjust the source or scene if the video is cropped or the audio is missing or too loud.
OBS documents Media Sources and their controls here: OBS Media Sources.
For several clips
- Install VLC if it is not installed. For 64-bit OBS, use 64-bit VLC.
- Add a VLC Video source in the scene.
- Add the demo clips to the source’s playlist in the order they should play.
- Enable Loop Playlist, then confirm that each clip plays and that the last returns to the first.
If VLC Video is missing from OBS, check that VLC is installed and that its architecture matches OBS. OBS’s source documentation covers the supported source setup: OBS Media Sources.

Connect OBS to a YouTube Live event
- In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and create or schedule an encoder stream. Scheduling gives you an event page to promote.
- In Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key from the stream settings.
- In OBS, open Settings, then Stream. Select YouTube as the service and enter the URL and key in the applicable fields. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the encrypted form of RTMP; use the RTMPS URL shown in Live Control Room. See YouTube’s RTMPS guide.
- Set the output to match the recording and the available upload connection. YouTube’s documented encoder settings support H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate encoding; and up to 60 fps. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says it should not exceed four seconds. Recommended bitrates vary by resolution, frame rate, and codec, so use the applicable value in YouTube’s encoder settings rather than assuming one bitrate fits every demo.
- Start streaming in OBS. Wait for the preview in Live Control Room, then check both picture and sound before selecting Go live.
YouTube’s encoder workflow and setup guidance are at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder. A software encoder such as OBS is a documented way to do this; the cited guidance does not establish dedicated streaming hardware as necessary for a local-file loop.
Test and operate the booth stream
Before the event
- Configure the encoder at least two hours before the planned event and start it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time; these are YouTube recommendations, not performance guarantees. YouTube live-streaming tips
- Run a test with audio and movement similar to the actual demo. Confirm the video repeats as intended, every playlist item plays, and sound continues across the loop.
- Check the Live Control Room preview before going live. Do not rely on a still frame alone to verify moving video or audio.
- Decide who will watch stream health and handle a failure. A loop setting repeats source media; it does not ensure that OBS, the computer, or the network stays operational.
While live and after the event
Monitor stream health and audio/video quality while the broadcast runs, as YouTube advises. Plan for someone to respond if playback stops, audio ends, or the encoder or connection fails. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. DVR may let viewers pause and rewind during a live stream, while latency settings trade delay against playback buffering; review the available options in Manage live stream settings.

Troubleshooting common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| The clip ends instead of restarting | Loop is not enabled on the Media Source, or the wrong source is active. | Open the Media Source properties and enable Loop. If you are cycling several clips, check Loop Playlist on the VLC Video source. |
| VLC Video is unavailable in OBS | VLC is not installed or its architecture does not match OBS. | Install VLC; for 64-bit OBS, use 64-bit VLC, then reopen OBS and check the source list. |
| YouTube does not show an incoming preview | OBS is not sending to the event’s current URL/key, streaming has not started, or live streaming is not enabled for the channel. | Verify the stream URL and key against Live Control Room, start the OBS stream, and check channel eligibility. First-time live enablement can take up to 24 hours. |
| Video or audio quality is poor or unstable | Output settings may not suit the source or available upload connection. | Check resolution, frame rate, codec, constant bitrate, keyframe interval, and YouTube’s recommended bitrate for that combination. Test the connection and monitor stream health. |
| The live stream stops unexpectedly | The computer, OBS playback, or network may have failed; looping does not recover a failed encoder. | Have an operator check the computer and connection, restart playback or streaming if needed, and verify the preview before resuming. |
