Send a request to its URL-to-image endpoint with your ApiFlash access key, the page URL, and the S3 destination fields: s3_access_key_id, s3_secret_key, s3_bucket, and s3_key. Set response_type=json if you only need the S3 object and do not want the image bytes returned in the HTTP response. The steps and parameters below follow the ApiFlash documentation.
What you need before making the request
- An ApiFlash access key.
- An S3 bucket and the object key (the path and filename) you want the screenshot to use.
- A target page URL that includes its protocol, such as
https://example.com. - A way to keep ApiFlash and AWS credentials out of public code, browser-side requests, and logs. The ApiFlash documentation lists the credential parameters but does not specify a least-privilege IAM policy or the bucket’s security configuration; consult current AWS security guidance for your account and architecture.
ApiFlash accepts GET requests with query parameters or POST requests with form data. The GET example is convenient to inspect, but query strings can be recorded by clients and infrastructure, so do not put real credentials in a public URL or paste credential-bearing requests into shared logs.
Send a direct-to-S3 capture request
Replace each placeholder with your own value. URL-encode the target URL when building a GET query. This example requests a PNG and JSON response; the JSON response avoids transferring the screenshot bytes back to the caller when the S3 copy is the only output needed.

Choose the response and image format
response_type=jsonreturns JSON rather than the image bytes. Use it when your application only needs the upload result and will use the object from S3.- Without that setting, ApiFlash’s default response is the image bytes with content headers.

Use a custom S3-compatible service
For a compatible storage provider rather than AWS S3, ApiFlash documents s3_endpoint. The endpoint is empty by default, which uses AWS S3. The documentation also provides s3_region as an optional region setting that may be needed for a compatible provider. Check your provider’s endpoint and region requirements before sending the request.
Set up the bucket and protect credentials
- Create or select the bucket in your AWS account, then decide on an object-key convention such as
screenshots/example.png. - Configure credentials and bucket access for the integration according to current AWS security guidance. ApiFlash’s cited documentation does not provide a least-privilege policy, key lifecycle, or bucket hardening recipe, so do not treat the illustrative request as a security policy.
- Make the request from a trusted server-side environment. Keep both the ApiFlash access key and AWS secret key out of browser JavaScript, public repositories, and diagnostic output.
- Check the ApiFlash response and confirm that the expected object key is present in the bucket using your normal AWS tooling or application workflow.
Manage cache, quota, and request rate
ApiFlash documents a screenshot cache TTL default of 86,400 seconds (one day) and a maximum of 2,592,000 seconds (30 days). Its documentation says identical successful requests may return a cached screenshot without counting against the monthly quota. If freshness matters, account for the cache behavior in your request design rather than assuming each identical request is a new capture.

ApiFlash documents processing at 20 requests per second with a burst size of 400. Requests beyond the processing rate are delayed until the burst limit is exceeded; further requests receive HTTP 429. Repeated identical failed captures are documented as throttled to five per hour.
Inspect X-Quota-Limit, X-Quota-Remaining, and X-Quota-Reset response headers to monitor quota, or use the documented quota endpoint at https://api.apiflash.com/v1/urltoimage/quota. ApiFlash’s product page currently lists S3 export on its Free, Lite, Medium, and Large plans; displayed quotas and prices can change, so verify the current product page before choosing a plan.

Troubleshoot ApiFlash errors

If the API response is successful but the object is not where expected, verify the exact bucket and s3_key values and the credentials and storage permissions configured for this integration. The documentation does not establish a particular AWS permission fix for that situation.
