Set full_page=true in a request to ApiFlash’s /v1/urltoimage endpoint to capture the page’s full height. Include your access key and a fully qualified target URL, such as https://example.com. The endpoint returns image bytes by default.
Make a full-page screenshot with cURL
Use GET parameters and URL-encode their values. This command saves the returned image as screenshot.jpeg:
curl --get 'https://api.apiflash.com/v1/urltoimage'
--data-urlencode 'access_key=YOUR_ACCESS_KEY'
--data-urlencode 'url=https://example.com'
--data-urlencode 'full_page=true'
--output screenshot.jpeg
Replace YOUR_ACCESS_KEY with your ApiFlash key and change the target URL. The example uses the default JPEG response. ApiFlash also documents PNG and WebP output formats; use the appropriate format parameter from the API documentation if you need a different image type.
What full-page mode changes
The full_page parameter defaults to false, so set it explicitly to true for a full-height capture. In this mode, ApiFlash ignores the height parameter. The result is not the same as asking for an unusually tall viewport.

- A BETTER READING EXPERIENCE: For busy office workers, EasyRead mode provides a more paper-like experience for when viewing lengthy documents
Capture dimensions still have limits: the API reference documents a maximum viewport width and height of 16,350 pixels and a maximum viewport area of 33,177,600 pixels. WebP output has its own maximum width and height of 16,350 pixels after the scale factor. Check the live API reference for dimension and format parameters if you are capturing unusually long pages.
Choose when ApiFlash captures the page
A full-height image can still omit content that has not loaded or appeared yet. ApiFlash’s default readiness condition is network_idle; choose a different readiness control when the site’s loading behavior calls for it.
Wait for the page load condition
The wait_until parameter can use network_idle (the default), dom_loaded, or page_loaded. The documented wait_until_timeout range is 1 to 30 seconds. If that timeout is reached, capture proceeds with what has loaded; a longer wait does not guarantee that every page element is ready.

Wait for a late element
Use wait_for with a CSS selector when you know which element indicates that late content is ready. If no matching element appears within 15 seconds, capture is aborted. This is useful for content inserted after lazy loading, as noted in the ApiFlash FAQ. Encode selectors as request parameter values rather than concatenating them into a URL by hand.

Set scroll_page=true to scroll through the page before capture. This can trigger lazy-loaded elements or animations. Scrolling alone is not a guarantee that every site’s deferred content will appear; use a selector wait as well when a specific element must be present.
Use a delay only when needed
delay accepts values from 0 to 10 seconds. ApiFlash advises preferring wait_for or wait_until where possible because they provide more reliable readiness conditions than a fixed pause.

Keep the access key out of browser code
Treat the access key as a secret. If a browser-facing application calls ApiFlash directly, visitors can inspect the request and obtain the key. Instead, have your application call your own backend or a secured proxy, then let that server add the key when it makes the ApiFlash request. ApiFlash’s guides describe proxy patterns for Nginx and Cloudflare Workers.
Use an HTTP or form-encoding library when building requests programmatically. Correct encoding matters for target URLs with query strings and values containing CSS selectors, custom headers, cookies, or JavaScript.
Choose image bytes or a JSON response
By default, the response body contains image bytes, which is convenient when saving the result directly to a file. Add response_type=json when you want JSON containing links to the screenshot and, if requested, extracted HTML or text. See the API documentation for the relevant extraction parameters and response details.

Cache, quota, and request limits
Understand cached captures
Identical request parameters can return a cached image. The documented ttl range is 0 to 2,592,000 seconds. Set fresh=true to request a new capture without deleting the previous cached result. The FAQ says cached and failed screenshots do not count toward the monthly quota.
Handle traffic and quota
The API reference documents a processing rate of 20 requests per second with a burst of 400. Requests above the processing rate may be delayed; requests beyond the burst can receive HTTP 429. Quota information is available through response headers or the quota endpoint described in the API documentation.
Handle HTTP errors rather than assuming each response is an image. ApiFlash documents statuses 400, 401, 402, 403, 429, and 500. Its terms direct clients receiving 429 to use exponential backoff. Retry transient failures with backoff, not in a tight loop; check request parameters, credentials, account status, and quota for other errors.

Troubleshoot common problems
- The screenshot shows only the initial viewport: Confirm that the request contains
full_page=true. Full-page mode is off by default. - Late or lazy-loaded content is missing: Choose a suitable
wait_untilcondition, wait for a known element withwait_for, or enablescroll_page=trueto trigger lazy loading. A fixeddelayis available, but ApiFlash recommends condition-based waits where possible. - The request fails on a URL or selector with special characters: Use a URL/form encoding library or cURL’s
--data-urlencodeoption. Encode the complete target URL as a parameter value. - You receive HTTP 401 or 403: Check that the access key is valid and that it is being sent as
access_key. Keep it server-side rather than exposing it in public code. - You receive HTTP 402: Check the account or quota status in ApiFlash’s response and account tools; the status is documented as an API error.
- You receive HTTP 429: Reduce request pressure and apply exponential backoff, as directed by the ApiFlash terms.
- The capture is too large or fails at a large dimension: Check the documented viewport width, height, and area limits, including the WebP limit after scaling. Full-page mode ignores
height, so changing that parameter will not constrain its captured height. - You need a new capture but see an old image: Identical parameters may use cache. Set
fresh=trueto request a fresh capture; setttlto control cache time.
