To broadcast a RadioBOSS automation playlist directly to YouTube Live, configure a RadioBOSS custom RTMP encoder with the RTMP or RTMPS URL and stream key shown in YouTube Live Control Room, then add that encoder to RadioBOSS’s broadcast settings and start it. RadioBOSS takes its default broadcast audio from the mix currently playing in the playlist. The steps below follow DJSoft’s RTMP guide; interface labels can vary by installed version.
What you need before configuring RadioBOSS
- RadioBOSS with the RTMP plugin available. The manual’s setup flow includes an Install plugin control if the plugin is missing.
- A YouTube live stream configured in Live Control Room, with its server URL and stream key available.
- An image or video file for the RTMP encoder’s background media field.
- A working internet connection that can reach YouTube’s ingest server.
RadioBOSS reads audio from a playlist and encodes it as it plays. As the RadioBOSS User Manual puts it, “The software reads the audio data from a playlist and encodes it on the fly.” Its default broadcast source is the audio mix, so the broadcast carries whatever is currently playing in the playlist. DJSoft’s RTMP streaming instructions describe the custom-encoder procedure.
Get the YouTube stream URL and key
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room for the live stream you intend to use.
- Open the stream settings and copy the server URL and stream key shown for that broadcast. Treat the stream key as a password: anyone who has it may be able to send video or audio to your stream.
- Prefer the RTMPS URL when YouTube provides it. YouTube describes RTMPS as RTMP carried over TLS/SSL. Copy the URL from Live Control Room rather than assuming a generic RTMP address will work. See YouTube Help: Encrypt your stream using RTMPS.
Configure the RadioBOSS custom RTMP encoder
- In RadioBOSS, open Settings → Options → Broadcast, then choose Custom Encoders.
- In the custom encoder window, add an encoder, enter a recognizable name such as YouTube Live, and select the RTMP option.
- Enter the YouTube server URL and stream key in the corresponding destination fields. Use the exact URL copied from Live Control Room, including the secure RTMPS URL if that is the one you selected. Follow the field formatting shown by your RadioBOSS version.
- Select the image or video file requested for background media. This is an encoder configuration requirement in the documented RadioBOSS procedure; it is distinct from the playlist audio source.
- If RadioBOSS indicates that the RTMP plugin is unavailable, use the encoder window’s Install plugin control when present, complete installation, and return to the custom encoder setup.
- Save or confirm the custom encoder configuration.
Add the encoder to RadioBOSS broadcasting
- Return to the Broadcast area in RadioBOSS settings.
- Add a streaming encoder. In its Server field, enter
[rtmp]. - Select the custom encoder you named in the previous section.
- Confirm the broadcast source is the audio mix if you want YouTube to receive the currently playing playlist output. The default source is the mix.
- Apply the settings, start or enable the broadcast, and check RadioBOSS’s report or log for connection status.
The general RadioBOSS broadcast manual describes a successful server connection as “Connected to server! (output N)” for the workflow it covers. The precise status text for a YouTube custom RTMP encoder can vary with configuration and software version; check the encoder log for connection errors as well. The DJSoft manual index identifies its help file as covering RadioBOSS 7.2, so verify labels against your installed version. RadioBOSS manual: Broadcasting Internet radio · RadioBOSS User Manual PDF.
RTMP or RTMPS: which URL should you use?
Use the URL supplied for the stream in Live Control Room. RTMPS adds TLS/SSL encryption to the RTMP connection, protecting the transport between the encoder and YouTube. Do not substitute a guessed server address or alter the URL casually; the correct endpoint depends on what YouTube provides for the stream. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance says the protocol and server should be rtmps when diagnosing an RTMPS connection. If the URL otherwise appears correct but an SSL error occurs, YouTube documents port 443 as a troubleshooting option. Consult the current RadioBOSS encoder documentation for how the URL and port should be entered in its fields.

Troubleshoot connection and audio problems
RadioBOSS does not connect
- Recheck the server URL and key. Copy both again from the correct YouTube Live Control Room stream. A mistyped key or URL can prevent the connection.
- Check the protocol. If using RTMPS, make sure the configured address is the RTMPS URL supplied by YouTube and that the connection is configured as RTMPS, not ordinary RTMP.
- Check network access. RadioBOSS’s general broadcast guidance identifies an incorrect address or port, firewall or antivirus blocking, and lack of network connectivity as possible causes of broadcast connection errors. These are general checks, not a YouTube-specific diagnosis.
- For an SSL error, verify the RTMPS URL first. YouTube also documents port 443 as a troubleshooting option when the URL appears correct.
- Read the RadioBOSS report or log. Use the actual error and encoder status to narrow down whether the failure is local configuration, network access, or the destination connection.
YouTube connects but the playlist audio is missing or wrong
- Confirm the broadcast source is the audio mix. RadioBOSS’s default broadcast source is the mix currently playing from the playlist.
- Check whether the intended playlist item is playing in RadioBOSS and whether the local mix contains audio.
- Confirm you selected the custom RTMP encoder in the broadcast encoder settings, rather than only defining it in the custom encoder window.
The background media is not what you expected
RadioBOSS’s RTMP setup asks for an image or video file as background media. Check the file selected in the custom encoder configuration. The documented setup does not establish that this field replaces or changes the playlist’s audio mix.
Direct YouTube versus RadioBOSS Cloud
These are separate destination workflows. For direct YouTube streaming, configure RadioBOSS’s custom RTMP encoder with YouTube’s URL and key. RadioBOSS Cloud’s live-broadcast guide instead describes connecting RadioBOSS to RadioBOSS Cloud through Icecast; it also describes transitions between live and AutoDJ broadcasts. Choose the instructions for the actual destination rather than treating the Cloud Icecast setup as a substitute for YouTube RTMP configuration. The guides do not establish that one route is universally better. RadioBOSS Cloud: Live broadcast.

It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home; it does not broadcast a live camera or RadioBOSS’s real-time audio mix.
