Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo rotate prerecorded videos in a YouTube Live stream, use OBS: add one file as a Media Source and enable Loop, or load several files into a VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. Then connect OBS to a stream in YouTube Studio with the stream URL and stream key, test the preview, and monitor stream health. OBS can repeat the content, but it cannot guarantee that your computer, internet connection, or YouTube’s ingest stays online around the clock.
Before you start: make sure the channel can go live
Your YouTube channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. If this is the first time you enable live streaming, YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours. Check access before preparing a long-running broadcast. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance and its live-streaming tips.
Set up the prerecorded video rotation in OBS
Choose the source based on whether you want to repeat one video or cycle through several. OBS documents these playback controls in its Media Sources guide.
Repeat one video
- Open OBS and add a source in the scene you will use for the broadcast.
- Choose Media Source, create or select the source, and browse to the video file.
- Enable Loop in the source properties. The file restarts after it reaches the end.
- Check the preview and audio before connecting to YouTube.
This is the simplest setup, but it repeats only that file; it does not create a queue of different videos.

Rotate several videos with a VLC playlist
- Install VLC if it is not already installed. The VLC Video source in OBS requires VLC, and OBS documentation specifies 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS.
- In OBS, add a VLC Video source to the scene.
- In the source properties, add the video files to the playlist in the order you want them to play.
- Enable Loop Playlist so playback starts again after the playlist runs out.
- Leave shuffle off for a predictable sequence. Enable it only if you want the playlist order randomized; the resulting sequence may vary.
- Play the source and inspect both picture and sound in the OBS preview.
Looping defines what happens when a file or playlist ends; it does not guarantee gapless transitions. Test the actual files and playback before relying on the rotation.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live.
- Select an existing stream or create one in Live Control Room.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube and enter them in OBS’s streaming settings.
- Start streaming from OBS, then confirm that the feed appears in the Live Control Room preview before you make the stream public or rely on it.
- Keep the stream key private. It connects your encoder to the stream, so do not show it in screenshots or on-screen captures.
YouTube’s encoder instructions describe this connection workflow. Stopping the encoder ends the stream.

Choose settings that your connection can sustain
Set resolution and frame rate to match the source and the upload capacity available where OBS runs. YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension of RTMP, and says Live Control Room detects encoder settings and transcodes the live stream for viewers. Its current settings guidance gives these recommended encoder bitrates:
| Output | AV1 or H.265 | H.264 |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 6 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 12 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s encoder bitrate recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular internet connection can sustain them. For a long broadcast, test using representative motion and audio, then review stream health in Live Control Room. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for current settings guidance.

Test and monitor the broadcast
Before relying on a continuous stream, run a representative test with the same scene, playlist, resolution, frame rate, and audio you intend to use. YouTube advises checking the preview, confirming the event is accessible, and monitoring audio and video quality. Keep an eye on Live Control Room’s stream-health indicators while the broadcast runs; a playlist looping in OBS does not ensure that OBS, the network, or YouTube ingestion remains uninterrupted. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips and encoder settings guidance.
Plan separately for 24/7 operation and archives
YouTube states that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume that one uninterrupted 24/7 stream will produce a complete archive. If you need recordings, plan how you will preserve the source files and handle archive requirements; verify YouTube’s current behavior before depending on an archive of a stream lasting 12 hours or longer. YouTube’s encoder setup page also notes that stopping the encoder ends the stream.

For local OBS streaming, the computer running OBS and its internet connection must remain available. If either fails, the playlist cannot keep broadcasting by itself. A hosted encoder is another approach when you do not want a dedicated local PC running, but compare playlist controls, outage handling, monitoring, terms, and current pricing directly with the provider.

Common problems and fixes
- The VLC Video source is missing: Install VLC, then restart OBS. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.
- The video stops after one play: For a single Media Source, enable Loop. For a VLC playlist, enable Loop Playlist; they are separate controls.
- The playlist runs in an unexpected order: Check whether shuffle is enabled. Turn it off and arrange the files in the desired order for predictable playback.
- YouTube does not show the OBS feed: Confirm the correct stream URL and key are entered in OBS, the stream is selected in Live Control Room, and OBS has started streaming. Check the preview before going live.
- The stream health is poor or playback stutters: Test a lower resolution or frame rate, or reduce encoder bitrate to a level your upload connection can sustain. Recheck stream health and audio/video quality.
- The broadcast ends unexpectedly: Check whether OBS stopped, the computer or network became unavailable, or the encoder connection was interrupted. OBS playlist looping does not restart a failed encoder connection by itself.
