To capture a webpage as a PDF with Urlbox, provide a publicly accessible page URL and set format to pdf. For a one-off terminal capture, Urlbox’s CLI has a shortcut: urlbox pdf https://example.com --output page.pdf. The main choice is whether you want a conventional multipage PDF or one long page.
Choose the Urlbox workflow
Use the API when you are integrating PDF capture into an application or need to manage jobs programmatically. Use the CLI when you want to run a command from a terminal and save the result locally. Urlbox documents synchronous and asynchronous API workflows, while its CLI PDF command writes to a specified output path. See the Urlbox documentation overview for the product’s documented scope.

Capture a PDF with the Urlbox API
Send a synchronous request
Urlbox documents the synchronous endpoint as POST https://api.urlbox.com/v1/render/sync, authenticated with a bearer token containing your project secret. A minimal request body is:

}Send that JSON body to the endpoint with your bearer token. The input URL must be publicly accessible to Urlbox. Urlbox also accepts HTML input, which can be useful when you are generating a document from markup rather than capturing a live public page. Choose the PDF layout
- Multipage or one long page: PDF output is multipage by default. Set
full_page: trueto request the full website content on a single PDF page. That can produce an unusually tall document; use the default when ordinary page breaks are preferable. - Specific pages: Set
pdf_page_rangeto a range such as1,3-5when you only need selected pages. - Paper dimensions: Use
pdf_page_sizefor a standard paper size, orpdf_page_widthandpdf_page_heightfor custom dimensions. - Print or screen styling: PDFs use the page’s print stylesheet by default. Set
mediatoscreenif the print styles omit or substantially change content you need, then inspect the result because screen styling may not suit a paginated document. - Headers and footers: Urlbox’s options reference documents PDF headers and template variables including the current date, page title, URL, page number, and total page count.
- Consent overlays: For full-page captures, Urlbox recommends considering
click_acceptandhide_cookie_banners. Check the resulting PDF to confirm that the page’s own consent interface or print layout has not obscured wanted content.

Handle the API result and retention
A successful synchronous response includes a temporary renderUrl. Urlbox’s API reference says that URL expires after 30 days, so download the PDF or use Urlbox’s documented storage approach if you need to retain it longer. For longer-running captures or application workflows that should not wait on a synchronous response, the API also documents an asynchronous endpoint with a render ID and status URL; webhooks are another documented way to receive status updates.

The API reference notes that a long-running synchronous request can return a temporary redirect after 95 seconds. It also says render endpoint requests are not cached or deduplicated, so avoid blindly retrying a request if the first response is delayed or ambiguous; use the documented asynchronous status flow where appropriate. urlbox pdf https://example.com --output page.pdfThe pdf command is shorthand for PDF rendering with full-page capture enabled. It saves the result as page.pdf in the current directory. Use a different path after --output to choose another filename or location. If you want a conventional multipage document instead of a single long page, use the CLI’s documented options to override full-page capture.

- The page cannot be rendered: Check that the URL is publicly accessible to Urlbox and correctly formed. The basic URL workflow does not establish a method for private or internal pages; the documented alternative input type is HTML.
- The PDF has missing or different content: Print styles are selected by default. Try
media: "screen"if the print stylesheet hides needed content, and inspect the PDF for layout differences. - The result is one very tall page: The CLI
pdfshortcut enables full-page capture. Override that setting when you need conventional page breaks; the API’s default PDF is multipage. - A cookie prompt covers the page: Consider the documented
click_acceptandhide_cookie_bannersoptions, then verify the saved document. - The synchronous request takes too long: A long-running request can return a temporary redirect after 95 seconds. Yes. Urlbox documents HTML as an input option, in addition to a publicly accessible URL. Consult its API documentation for the request format.
