ScreenshotOne does not provide a native recurring schedule in its documented API. To take screenshots on a cadence, schedule an external job or automation to call ScreenshotOne’s /take endpoint, then store or forward each result. This guide shows a basic scheduled script, how to handle longer captures and multiple URLs, and what to check before leaving the workflow unattended.

What you need to schedule ScreenshotOne captures

  • A ScreenshotOne access key and the target URL or URLs.
  • An external scheduler, such as a server cron job, a cloud scheduler, or a workflow platform, configured for your desired cadence.
  • A destination for each result. Use a unique name or key per run if you need a historical archive.

ScreenshotOne’s API accepts GET and POST requests. The examples below use a synchronous GET request and write the returned image bytes to a file. See the ScreenshotOne request documentation for supported parameters and response formats. Keep the access key in a secret store or environment variable rather than committing it to source control.

Build a scheduled screenshot job

1. Make and validate one request

Start by running a single capture manually. This makes it easier to distinguish a request or rendering issue from a scheduler configuration issue. Substitute your access key and target page:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotone.com/take"
  -d access_key="$SCREENSHOTONE_ACCESS_KEY"
  --data-urlencode "url=https://example.com"
  -d full_page=true
  -o "example-$(date -u +%Y%m%dT%H%M%SZ).png"

Set the output format using the API’s documented format parameter if you want an output other than the endpoint’s default. The timestamped filename prevents a new run from overwriting the previous capture.

2. Put the request behind a scheduler

Run the same command from a scheduled environment. For a Unix-like system using cron, a daily run at 02:15 UTC can be expressed as:

15 2 * * * SCREENSHOTONE_ACCESS_KEY='your-key' /path/to/capture-script.sh

Prefer setting the key in the scheduler’s secret or environment configuration instead of embedding it in the cron line. Confirm the scheduler’s timezone: “daily at 02:15” is only meaningful once its timezone is known. Cloud schedulers and workflow tools use their own timezone and retry settings, so verify those in the chosen service rather than assuming they match the machine running the job.

3. Save or forward each result

A successful synchronous response contains the configured result, which the calling script can save to local or object storage, or pass to another service. If you need a durable screenshot history, save each run to storage you control with a timestamp or other unique identifier. ScreenshotOne says temporary screenshot URLs may be available for at most four hours unless caching is configured with a longer TTL; it recommends compatible S3 storage for long-term retention. See its storage documentation.

Choose capture settings for repeatable results

Full-page capture and viewport

Use full_page=true when you need the whole document rather than only the visible viewport. Set viewport width and height to the dimensions relevant to your comparison or record. A page may render differently at different viewport sizes, and full-page capture is not guaranteed to work on every page, so validate representative targets before relying on unattended runs. ScreenshotOne describes the full-page option and viewport parameters in its capture documentation.

Wait for dynamic content

The documented default wait event is load, and the default delay is zero. A page that populates content after load may therefore be captured too soon. Where needed, configure a different wait_until condition, wait for a specific selector, or add a delay. Extra waiting increases the time each scheduled run takes; use the narrowest wait that reliably captures the content you need.

Use POST for large request bodies

GET is convenient for ordinary URL captures. ScreenshotOne also accepts POST with JSON, which is more suitable when sending large HTML or Markdown input that would make a query string unwieldy. The request format and parameters are documented at /take API documentation.

Handle long captures and completion callbacks

If the scheduler or workflow has a short execution limit, a synchronous capture may time out at the caller even when the screenshot service can continue processing. ScreenshotOne supports asynchronous requests with async=true and a webhook_url. The webhook reports completion information, allowing the workflow to finish outside the original request window. See ScreenshotOne’s async and webhook documentation.

  • Configure webhook_errors=true if the workflow needs error details delivered through webhook payloads or headers.
  • ScreenshotOne says webhook requests can be signed. Validate the X-ScreenshotOne-Signature header using the secret signing key and HMAC SHA-256 before trusting a callback.
  • Make webhook handling idempotent: a callback should not create duplicate archive entries if it is delivered more than once.

Schedule multiple URLs without bursts

For a set of pages, calculate the expected monthly volume as the number of URLs multiplied by the number of scheduled runs. Add headroom for tests and retries. Monthly quota is only one constraint: requests concentrated into one minute can also exceed the plan’s request-rate allowance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

ScreenshotOne’s usage endpoint exposes concurrency.remaining and concurrency.reset values for the current one-minute request bucket. For larger batches, queue the URLs, process them in controlled batches, and use bounded retries rather than starting an unbounded burst. ScreenshotOne describes /bulk as a wrapper around regular endpoints and notes that a custom bulk solution may be preferable; see the bulk guide and usage endpoint documentation.

Use a no-code workflow where it fits

Zapier

ScreenshotOne’s Zapier documentation describes triggering captures in automated workflows and passing results to other apps. It also warns that Zapier has a 30-second execution limit and recommends asynchronous requests and webhooks when that limit causes timeouts. Check the available actions and configure the async callback path if the capture can outlast the workflow step. See ScreenshotOne’s Zapier guide.

Make

ScreenshotOne’s Make guide says there was no official integration when that page was written, while its integration marketing page lists Make and the guide discusses community-supported or other methods. Because connector availability and actions can change, check the current integration page and the Make guide before building a workflow that depends on a native connector.

Symptom Likely cause What to check
No capture was created The scheduler did not run, the command failed, or the output path was unavailable. Inspect scheduler logs, confirm the script’s executable path and environment, and check write permissions for the destination.
Capture is missing late-loaded content The page had not rendered the required content when the screenshot was taken. Use a selector wait, a suitable wait_until option, or a measured delay; verify with a manual run.
The request times out in an automation step The capture takes longer than the caller’s execution limit. Use async=true and a webhook callback; Zapier’s documented execution limit is 30 seconds.
Some URLs fail in a large run A burst may exceed current concurrency capacity, or individual pages may fail to load. Queue and batch the work, inspect the usage endpoint’s remaining and reset values, and apply bounded retries to transient failures.
An older screenshot URL no longer works The temporary URL may have expired. Persist results in storage you control or configure an appropriate longer cache TTL; do not treat a temporary URL as a permanent archive.
Full-page screenshots are incomplete or fail Full-page capture may not work on every page or layout. Test representative pages and adjust the capture approach or viewport for the affected target.

Estimate ScreenshotOne capacity and cost

ScreenshotOne’s pricing page, accessed October 3, 2026, listed the following quotas, monthly prices, and request rates. Prices and plans can change; check the live pricing page before choosing a plan. The page says successful non-cached screenshots count toward quotas and displays additional overage rates by plan.

Plan listed October 3, 2026 Monthly price Monthly screenshots Requests per minute
Free $0 100 Not stated on the pricing page
Basic $17 2,000 40
Growth $79 10,000 80
Scale $259 50,000 150

For example, capturing 20 URLs once per day requires 600 screenshots in a 30-day month before retries or testing. Schedule large groups across a wider time window if their simultaneous request count could exceed the applicable per-minute rate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can ScreenshotOne run screenshots on a schedule by itself?

Its documented API does not describe a native recurring schedule; the schedule must come from an external scheduler or workflow.

How should I preserve screenshots for a historical archive?

Save each result to storage you control under a unique run identifier or timestamp instead of relying on a temporary screenshot URL.

When should I use an asynchronous request?

Use async requests and a webhook when the capture may outlast the execution window of the scheduler or workflow calling the API.
