To control the order of prerecorded podcast episodes in a YouTube Live stream, set the sequence in the encoder that plays the files. In OBS Studio, add the episodes to a VLC Video source in the order you want and leave Shuffle Playlist off. YouTube Live does not create that local playback order from filenames; the stream arrives with its sequence already set.
First, identify which playlist is out of order
“Playlist” can mean three different things here, and each has a different control:

If you are sending local recordings to a live event, change the OBS source playlist—not a YouTube podcast playlist. The official YouTube Live ingest guidance does not establish that YouTube reads local filenames and generates an episode sequence from them.
Set the episode order in OBS
Prepare the VLC Video source
OBS’s VLC Video source plays a list of media files. VLC must be installed before this source is available. OBS specifies that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. See the OBS Media Sources instructions for the source controls.

- Install VLC, matching its 64-bit version to 64-bit OBS if that is the OBS version you use.
- In OBS, add a VLC Video source to the scene that will feed your live stream.
- Add the episode files to the source’s playlist in the intended playback sequence. Check the displayed file list; do not rely on filenames to imply that OBS will infer your intended order.
- Make sure Shuffle Playlist is off. When shuffle is off, the source follows the order in its file list.
- Set Loop Playlist according to whether the episode sequence should repeat. It is on by default: leave it on for a repeating run, or turn it off if playback should end after the last file.
Preview the complete sequence before going live
Preview the OBS scene and listen for audio before starting the live output. Confirm that the first file is the intended opener and that playback advances through the list in order. This practical check can catch a misplaced file or an unintended repeat before viewers encounter it.
Reorder uploaded episodes in a YouTube podcast playlist
If the episodes are already uploaded videos that viewers watch as a YouTube podcast—not files being played by OBS—make the change in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s podcast guidance recommends newest-to-oldest order for episodic shows and oldest-to-newest for serial shows. You can also manually reorder playlist videos by dragging them up or down; see Manage playlists in YouTube Studio.

Troubleshoot the wrong order or unexpected playback
- Episodes play in an unexpected sequence in the live stream: Open the OBS VLC Video source, inspect the file list, and confirm that Shuffle Playlist is off.
- There is no VLC Video source option: Install VLC and ensure its architecture matches OBS; OBS’s documented requirement is 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS.
- The sequence starts again after the final episode: Check Loop Playlist. It is on by default for the VLC Video source; turn it off for a single pass.
- The OBS stream is in order, but the podcast page is not: Change the video order in the YouTube Studio podcast playlist. The OBS queue and the uploaded-video playlist are separate.
- You mean HLS segment order rather than episode order: The HLS media playlist specifies segment order for reconstructing the incoming stream. It does not sort your local episode files.
