To capture a whole webpage on a Mac, use your browser’s full-page screenshot feature or a browser extension’s full-page command. These capture content below the visible window; a regular Mac screen capture only captures the screen or a selected area. If you specifically want an extension, install one from your browser’s store, open the page, click its toolbar icon, and choose its full-page option. Exact labels vary by browser.
Choose an extension or your browser’s built-in capture
Browser tools can capture a full page without installing an add-on. Firefox has a direct context-menu option; Safari and Chrome use developer tools in the documented workflows. An extension may be more convenient if you prefer a toolbar button or want its particular export options.
| Route | How it starts | Useful distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Safari built-in | Develop menu > Show Web Inspector | Capture from the page’s html element; no extension needed. Macworld’s Mac tutorial |
| Chrome built-in | More Tools > Developer Tools | Use the device toolbar’s full-size screenshot command. Macworld’s Mac tutorial |
| Firefox built-in | Right-click the page > Take a Screenshot | Choose Save full page, then download or copy. Mozilla’s instructions |
| Browser extension | Click the extension’s toolbar icon | Choose its full-page capture command; available controls depend on the extension and browser. Awesome Screenshot’s instructions |
Use an extension to capture the full page
- Install and enable the extension. Get it from the relevant browser store, then check the browser’s extension settings if its icon is not visible. Review the extension’s current permissions and data practices before enabling it.
- Open the webpage. Wait for the page to load. On a page with lazy-loaded images, scroll down through the page first so below-the-fold content has a chance to load, then return to the top before capturing.
- Start full-page capture. Click the extension icon and choose its full-page option. For Awesome Screenshot, the vendor’s instructions describe selecting Capture, then Full Page in Chrome-compatible browsers; Safari uses Capture Full Page, and Firefox uses Capture Entire Page. See the vendor’s instructions.
- Review and save the result. If the extension opens an editor or preview, check that the page is complete and select its save or export option. The available file formats depend on the extension.
Another option is GoFullPage. Its Firefox Add-ons listing describes scrolling through page sections, exporting PNG, JPEG, or PDF, and splitting very large captures into multiple images if one image exceeds browser storage limits. These are claims in the listing, not a guarantee for every page or browser. GoFullPage on Firefox Add-ons.
Built-in full-page screenshot steps for Mac browsers
Safari
- Open Safari Settings (called Preferences in some versions), select Advanced, and enable the option to show web developer features or the Develop menu.
- Open the webpage and choose Develop > Show Web Inspector.
- In the Elements tab, right-click the first
htmlline and choose Capture Screenshot. - Save the generated image.
The setting wording can vary by Safari version. Macworld’s tutorial also describes an Awesome Screenshot Safari setup that may require enabling the extension in Safari settings and granting a screen-recording permission. Permission requirements are extension-specific; follow the current prompt rather than assuming all add-ons need the same access.

Troubleshooting
- The extension icon is missing: Open the browser’s extension controls, confirm the add-on is enabled, and pin it to the toolbar if the browser offers that option.
- The capture omits images or lower sections: Scroll down the page to trigger lazy loading, return to the top, and capture again.
- The capture is too large or fails partway through: Try a built-in capture route or an extension that supports splitting very large output; GoFullPage’s Firefox listing describes that capability.
- The extension cannot capture a page: Check the extension’s site access and permission prompts, then try the browser’s built-in screenshot or DevTools route.
- You cannot find a named menu item: Browser interfaces and permission labels can change. Check the browser’s current help and the extension’s own instructions for your installed version.
