That makes an image of the entire page, but it does not guarantee a 3840-pixel-wide file. For a more controlled capture, use Edge DevTools’ Device Mode and choose Capture a full size screenshot. Check the saved image’s dimensions if exact 4K output matters.
“4K” usually means 3840 × 2160 pixels for a desktop image. A full-page screenshot can be much taller than 2160 pixels, so a 4K-sized viewport and a whole-page capture are different results.
Choose between a 4K viewport and a full-page screenshot
Decide what you need before capturing:
- 4K viewport: a screenshot of the area currently visible in the browser, targeting 3840 × 2160 pixels.
- Full page: an image that includes content below the visible viewport. Its height may exceed 2160 pixels, and its width depends on the page and capture settings.
- Selected area: a screenshot of a particular part of the page, rather than the viewport or entire page.
Microsoft’s Edge documentation describes viewport and full-page capture options, but does not promise that selecting either one exports an image exactly 3840 pixels wide. Treat 4K as a target dimension and verify the saved file.
Take a full-page screenshot with Edge Web capture
This is the simplest Windows method for capturing an entire webpage. Microsoft’s guide, dated January 2, 2024, documents these steps; Edge’s feature availability can vary by device, market, and browser version.

- Open the webpage in Microsoft Edge.
- Open Settings and more and choose Web capture, or press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Choose Capture full page for the entire webpage. Choose the area-capture option if you only need part of it.
- Review the capture, then save it. Edge’s documented workflow also supports copying and markup.
Microsoft describes Web capture as a way to screenshot an entire webpage in its Edge Web capture guide. Its current Screenshot Tool feature page says moving content such as GIFs or carousels can remain on screen during capture, so you can catch a frame.
Use Edge DevTools for more viewport control
DevTools is useful when you need to configure or measure an emulated viewport, or choose explicitly between a visible-viewport screenshot and a full-page one. Device Mode is for emulating layouts; the cited instructions do not guarantee exact exported pixel dimensions.

- Open the webpage in Edge and open DevTools.
- Enable Device Mode.
- Use its viewport controls and pixel rulers to frame or measure the emulated viewport as needed.
- Open More options in Device Mode. Choose Capture a full size screenshot for the whole page, including content outside the viewport. Choose Capture screenshot for the currently visible viewport.
- Open the resulting file in an image viewer or editor and inspect its pixel dimensions and content.
Microsoft documents the capture distinction and Device Mode controls in its Device Mode documentation. Its DevTools overview explains the distinction between page zoom and DevTools UI zoom and documents Ctrl+0 to restore the focused surface to 100% zoom.
Verify whether the saved image is actually 4K
After saving, check the image’s pixel width and height in an image viewer or editor. A 3840 × 2160 result matches the usual desktop 4K target. A full-page capture may have a different height, and neither Edge capture method is documented as guaranteeing an exact 3840-pixel width. Page zoom changes rendered scale; it is not a guarantee of a particular file dimension.

Troubleshoot incomplete or unexpected captures
- The screenshot stops at the visible screen: In Edge Web capture, choose Capture full page. In DevTools, use Capture a full size screenshot, not Capture screenshot.
- You only need one section: Use Edge’s area-capture option instead of capturing the whole page.
- The file is not 3840 pixels wide: The capture controls do not guarantee that output dimension. Inspect the file and adjust the capture setup if exact dimensions are required.
- Page content looks scaled: Page zoom and DevTools UI zoom are separate. Use the appropriate surface’s zoom controls; in Edge, Ctrl+0 resets the focused surface to 100%.
- A GIF or carousel shows the wrong moment: Edge’s feature page says moving content can remain on screen during capture. Try capturing again when the desired frame is visible. Feature behavior may vary by device, market, and browser version.
