To broadcast a 24/7 aarti playlist on YouTube from a VPS, run a software encoder on an always-on virtual server, feed it music you have the rights to use and a still or looping visual, then send the stream to YouTube over RTMPS. Configure the encoder to YouTube’s current settings, leave bandwidth headroom, test the stream, and plan for recovery and local recording. One important limit: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so a continuous broadcast is not a dependable way to create a complete YouTube archive.
Before you begin: channel eligibility and music rights
YouTube’s Help pages, current as of October 3, 2026, say a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days to go live. Streamers must be at least 16 years old. Check eligibility in YouTube Studio before setting up the server, since platform rules can change. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements.
Confirm you have permission for both the musical composition and the specific sound recording. The permission should cover your intended territories and both live transmission and replay. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A licensed recording can still be interrupted if the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. How the VPS setup works
The VPS runs an encoder continuously. The encoder reads your aarti playlist, combines it with a visual, and sends the resulting feed to YouTube Live. YouTube supports software encoders; its guidance describes professional hardware encoders for higher-production-value events, not as a requirement for a file-based playlist. YouTube does not specify a minimum VPS CPU, RAM, or provider plan for this setup. Choose capacity based on whether your workflow copies compatible encoded files or must transcode them, and test the actual workload before depending on it.
Set up the broadcast
- Verify and prepare your YouTube channel. Confirm livestream eligibility in YouTube Studio. In Live Control Room, create or schedule an encoder stream and retrieve the stream URL and stream key. The key authorizes an encoder to send a feed to the right stream; handle it like a password. Do not put it in public scripts, screenshots, descriptions, or support requests. - Prepare the playlist and visual. Use a playlist of files your encoder can handle and that you are licensed to broadcast. A still image or looped devotional visual is a practical choice, not a YouTube requirement. Check the full playlist cycle for consistent audio level, unwanted silence, gaps, or abrupt transitions.
- Provision an always-on VPS and install your encoder. Select a server with reliable outbound connectivity and enough capacity for the chosen workflow. If the encoder needs to transcode, test that load on the VPS; if it can pass through compatible media, test that path instead. No universal server size is established for this use case. Keep the stream key out of source code and public logs, and restrict access to the server and any configuration containing it.
- Configure the YouTube ingest connection. Use the ingest URL and stream key shown for your stream in Live Control Room. YouTube supports RTMP and RTMPS encoder ingest and recommends RTMPS for ordinary content; use it when your encoder supports it. RTMPS encrypts the connection between your encoder and YouTube. - Set video and audio parameters. YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate (CBR); frame rates up to 60 fps; and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. Choose a supported resolution and use YouTube’s bitrate range for that resolution rather than guessing. For a mostly static devotional image, higher resolution is not automatically a better experience. Check YouTube’s current encoder settings and bitrate table.
- Check outbound bandwidth. The stream’s total outbound bitrate must fit within the VPS upload capacity. YouTube recommends 20% headroom beyond the bitrate, accounting for primary and backup streams if you use both. Network interruptions can disrupt the broadcast, so do not select a server solely by its advertised CPU or price. YouTube’s network tips for live streaming.
- Preview and test before going live. Confirm audio and video in YouTube’s preview, watch the stream-health messages, and test the full playlist cycle. YouTube recommends testing encoder failover if you use a backup encoder. Verify that any local archive recording is actually growing; a green preview by itself does not prove your archive is being saved. YouTube’s live-stream testing and troubleshooting guidance.
- Start the broadcast and monitor it. Start the encoder and confirm the feed appears in Live Control Room before you treat the channel as live. Monitor stream health and playlist playback after launch, and have a procedure to reconnect the encoder if the network or ingest connection fails. Automatic recovery and uninterrupted uptime are not guaranteed merely because the encoder runs on a VPS.
Plan for 24/7 playback and recordings
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, recommends making a local archive backup, and warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If a complete replay matters, do not depend on a single uninterrupted 24/7 YouTube broadcast as your only recording. Keep a separate local recording and confirm it is being written successfully. YouTube’s guidance does not establish a guaranteed method for automatically dividing a continuous broadcast into complete archives; check the current Studio controls and validate any rotation plan before production. Shorter scheduled sessions may improve the odds of getting platform archives, but session changes can interrupt a continuous station and need their own reliability plan. Decide which matters more for your channel—unbroken playback or dependable replay files—and test the chosen approach before relying on it.
Troubleshooting common problems
- YouTube will not accept the stream: Confirm the channel is eligible, the encoder is using the current ingest URL, and the stream key belongs to the selected Live Control Room stream. If you exposed the key, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder configuration.
- Video or audio is unstable: Check stream-health messages, confirm the encoder uses a supported codec and CBR, and compare its bitrate with YouTube’s table for the selected resolution. Check that outbound bandwidth remains above the stream’s total bitrate with the recommended headroom.
- The VPS cannot keep up: Determine whether the workflow is transcoding or passing through compatible media. Test the real playlist under load, then adjust the workflow or server capacity based on that test; YouTube does not prescribe a minimum VPS specification.
- The live stream is interrupted by a copyright match: Confirm the license covers the recording and composition, live use and replay, and relevant territories. Ask the rights owner whether the channel must be allowlisted through Content ID; a license alone may not prevent an interruption.
- The broadcast is live but no complete replay appears: Check the stream duration. YouTube warns that streams over 12 hours may not be captured, so inspect your separate local recording and do not treat the platform archive as your sole backup.
- The playlist reaches its end or has gaps: Verify the playlist repeats as intended, check transitions and audio levels through a full cycle, and confirm the encoder remains connected while moving between files.
