Start a touch with page.touchscreen.touchStart(x, y), move the returned handle with touch.move(x, y), and finish with touch.end(). Keeping the handle ties the start, movement and release to the same touch.
Move a touch point with the returned handle
This TypeScript example starts a touch, moves it through intermediate positions, and releases it. The intermediate points are illustrative; adjust them to match the page and interaction you are testing.
const touch = await page.touchscreen.touchStart(80, 120);
await touch.move(100, 140);
await touch.move(130, 170);
await touch.move(160, 200);
await touch.end();
touchStart dispatches touchstart and returns a TouchHandle. Its move(x, y) method dispatches movement for that touch, and end() dispatches touchend. See Puppeteer’s touchStart API and TouchHandle API.
Choose between the handle and direct touchscreen methods
| Approach | How it works | When it fits |
|---|---|---|
TouchHandle |
Call touchStart, then call move and end on the returned handle. |
Use when you want lifecycle operations tied to the specific touch you started. |
Touchscreen |
Call touchStart, then use touchscreen.touchMove(x, y) and the applicable touchscreen end method. |
Use when managing the first active touch directly through the touchscreen API. |
Puppeteer documents Touchscreen.touchMove(x, y) as moving the first active touch. The API shape does not establish a performance difference between these approaches. Refer to the touchMove API for its signature and caveats.

- Compact Mouse: With a comfortable and contoured shape, this Logitech ambidextrous wireless mouse feels great in either right or left hand and is far superior to a touchpad
- Durable and Reliable: This USB wireless mouse features a line-by-line scroll wheel, up to 1 year of battery life (2) thanks to a smart sleep mode function, and comes with the included AA battery
- Universal Compatibility: Your Logitech mouse works with your Windows PC, Mac, or laptop, so no matter what type of computer you own today or buy tomorrow your mouse will be compatible
- Plug and Play Simplicity: Just plug in the tiny nano USB receiver and start working in seconds with a strong, reliable connection to your wireless computer mouse up to 33 feet / 10 m (5)
- Better than touchpad: Get more done by adding M185 to your laptop; according to a recent study, laptop users who chose this mouse over a touchpad were 50% more productive (3) and worked 30% faster (4)
Account for event dispatch and coordinates
- Do not expect one page event per call. Puppeteer’s
Touchscreen.touchMove()documentation warns that browser optimizations can mean not every method call emits a pagetouchmoveevent; Chrome throttling is one cited example. Assert the meaningful page behavior or final state rather than a one-to-one count of calls and events. - Check the target geometry. The cited API signatures accept numeric x and y values, but do not specify their coordinate unit in the referenced excerpts. Check the documentation for your Puppeteer version and your test’s viewport and element geometry before relying on a conversion.
- Keep the lifecycle complete. Start a touch before moving it, and explicitly release it with
touch.end()or the appropriate touchscreen end method. DirecttouchMoveoperates on the first active touch.
Set the viewport at the right point in setup
The Page API exposes the touchscreen as page.touchscreen. Puppeteer’s Page class documentation notes that changing viewport settings such as isMobile or hasTouch can reload a page in some cases. If those properties matter to the test, configure the viewport before relying on page state that a reload would discard.
Troubleshoot a touch that does not behave as expected
- Movement or release has no effect: confirm that
touchStartcompleted and that a touch is still active. With the handle form, use the handle returned by that start call. - Your event count is lower than the number of calls: browser optimization may suppress or throttle observable
touchmoveevents. Test the interaction outcome instead of assuming every call produces an event. - The gesture misses the target: inspect the target’s location and the viewport used by the page, then verify the coordinate convention for the version-specific API you use; the cited signatures alone do not settle coordinate units.
- Page state changes during setup: set mobile and touch viewport properties before actions that depend on current page state, because changing them can trigger a reload in some cases.
Or skip the browser setup
If your goal is a screenshot rather than testing a touch gesture, ScreenshotNeo can capture a page with one API request. This does not move a touch point or replace a Puppeteer interaction test.
