Call and await page.setViewport() before page.goto(), then take the screenshot. For example, set width and height in CSS pixels to control the page’s visible viewport; add fullPage: true to capture the full document rather than only the visible area.
Set the viewport before navigating
This complete Node.js example creates a page, sets its viewport to 1280 × 800 CSS pixels, loads a URL, saves a screenshot, and closes the browser:

Puppeteer’s documentation notes that some sites do not expect a phone-sized viewport to be applied after loading; changing mobile or touch settings can also cause a page reload in some cases. Choose dimensions and device behavior
CSS-pixel width and height
width and height are required when passing a viewport object, and they are measured in CSS pixels—not necessarily the number of pixels in the saved image. Choose dimensions that match the layout breakpoint or browser view you want to reproduce. For example, a desktop-width viewport can trigger a different responsive layout from a narrow mobile-width viewport.

Pixel density with deviceScaleFactor
deviceScaleFactor controls device pixel ratio and defaults to 1. Keep it at 1 for a standard-density output; use a larger value when you need more image pixels for the same CSS layout. It changes output density, not the CSS viewport dimensions.
Mobile and touch settings
Optional viewport properties include isMobile, hasTouch, and isLandscape. isMobile determines whether the page’s meta viewport tag is taken into account, while hasTouch enables touch-event support. These settings do not by themselves select a device user agent.

If you need device metrics and a matching user agent, use Puppeteer’s device emulation rather than setting dimensions alone. The documented shortcut applies both user-agent and viewport settings, and should be called before navigation:

The viewport determines the emulated page dimensions; it does not decide whether the screenshot includes the whole document. By default, fullPage is false, so a basic screenshot captures the visible viewport. Set it to true for a full-page capture:

type: choose PNG, JPEG, or WebP where supported. PNG is the default.quality: set a value from 0 to 100 for lossy formats such as JPEG or WebP; it does not apply to PNG.omitBackground: true: omit the default white background to allow a transparent screenshot.path: save the image to disk. If you provide a path, its extension determines the image type; without a path, the returned image data is not automatically saved to disk.

Set a default viewport or inspect the current setting
ConnectOptions.defaultViewport configures the viewport for each page created through that connection. Its documented default is 800 × 600. For one page, page.viewport() returns Puppeteer’s configured viewport setting; it does not verify the page’s actual rendered viewport. To reset a page viewport to its default, call await page.setViewport(null). A value of 0 for width, height, or deviceScaleFactor resets that property to its system default.

Wait for the page content your screenshot needs
Navigation completion is not always the same as visual readiness. Puppeteer’s guide shows waitUntil: 'networkidle2' as an example, but a quiet network does not guarantee that every image, animation, or client-rendered element is ready. Wait for a page-specific selector or condition when the screenshot depends on it:

Frequently Asked Questions
Does changing the viewport resize the browser window?
No. page.setViewport() sets the page’s emulated viewport. It is separate from APIs that manage browser window bounds.
Can I set the viewport after calling goto()?
You can, but set it before navigation when possible so responsive layout is computed for the intended dimensions; changing mobile or touch settings may reload some pages.
