For YouTube streams, start with the YouTube Audio Library in YouTube Studio. For more options, browse Pixabay or Freesound, checking the license on each individual sound. SFXVault expressly lists livestream use in its license, with conditions for sounds downloaded by subscribers. No “royalty-free” label guarantees that a sound is cleared for every platform, monetized broadcasts, saved replays, or automated copyright checks.
Best places to find stream sound effects
YouTube Audio Library: the clearest starting point for YouTube
Open YouTube Studio, select Audio Library, then choose the Sound effects tab. Search or filter by category and duration, preview an effect, and download it as an MP3. YouTube says some Creative Commons items require attribution; standard Audio Library items can be filtered to show effects that do not require it. Check the individual listing and follow its attribution terms.
YouTube Help says, “Only music and sound effects from the Audio Library are known to YouTube to be copyright-safe.” That assurance is specific to YouTube; it should not be extended to Twitch, Kick, or another service. YouTube also says it is not responsible for problems involving royalty-free audio from outside libraries.
Pixabay: broad search and discovery
Pixabay’s live-streaming sound-effects search can help you discover cues such as live-chat or audience sounds. The search page is a catalog result, not a complete license review. Before using a particular file, read the current Pixabay Content License and any terms attached to that asset. Do not treat the presence of a file in the catalog as confirmation that your specific stream use is allowed.

Freesound: useful variety, but licenses differ by file
Freesound hosts user-uploaded recordings, so check both the uploader and the license on every sound page. Its FAQ distinguishes CC0 (“zero”), attribution licenses, and noncommercial licenses. A noncommercial license does not allow you to earn money with the resulting work, so it is generally unsuitable for a monetized stream unless the specific rights holder grants additional permission.
Freesound acknowledges that users may upload material they are not authorized to share. It also describes how a raw effect can later appear in another creator’s music registered with YouTube Content ID, producing a match when someone else uses the effect. Save the original sound page, creator name, license, and download date. If a claim arises, Freesound notes that the original listing and the release date of the later copyrighted work may help support a dispute.

SFXVault: explicit livestream permission, with subscription limits
SFXVault’s license, effective April 11, 2026, names YouTube, Twitch, Kick, podcasts, and livestreams as permitted commercial and noncommercial uses. Free sounds are covered unless an individual item says otherwise, and attribution is optional. Subscriber sounds may be used in new projects while the subscription is active. A project lawfully completed and published during an active subscription can remain online after it ends, but downloaded subscriber audio cannot be used in new projects afterward. The license also prohibits standalone redistribution and other uses that expose the raw file. Check the live terms before downloading or publishing.
Other search results to verify
Sonilo’s search result describes a streaming-focused collection with alerts, raid cues, and soundboard effects, and claims commercial use. Verify its current license directly before relying on that claim. SoundOfYouTube describes a free CC0 sound-effects library; still check the terms and license for the specific file you plan to use. These are search leads, not substitutes for reading the applicable terms.

Check the license before using an effect
For each sound, confirm that the rights cover the way you will actually use it—not just downloading or personal listening. Check the applicable platform’s terms, especially if you stream to more than one service or publish clips elsewhere.
- Platform: Does the license permit use on your actual service, such as YouTube Live, Twitch, or Kick?
- Monetization: Is commercial or monetized use allowed? A Freesound noncommercial license does not permit earning money with the resulting work.
- Replays and clips: Does permission cover saved VODs, highlights, and clips as well as the live broadcast?
- Attribution: Is credit required, and where must it appear? Copy the requested wording and placement.
- Edits: Are trimming, looping, layering, or other changes permitted?
- Duration: Is permission perpetual, tied to a subscription, or limited to projects made while a subscription is active?
- Raw-file restrictions: Can you embed the effect in a finished broadcast but not redistribute or expose the original file for extraction?
- Claims: Does the provider explain how to contest an automated match? Keep your proof even when you believe the license allows the use.
Keep a rights record
Save the source URL, asset title, creator, license text or screenshot, and download date for each effect. Record any required attribution and where you placed it, such as the stream description or credits. This makes it easier to verify what you downloaded and explain your use if a question or claim comes up later.

What to do if a sound gets a copyright claim
A valid license and an automated match are different things: permission may cover your use even if a detection system identifies the audio. YouTube’s Audio Library guidance applies to its own catalog; for outside sounds, YouTube does not promise the same assurance. Freesound’s documented example shows how a raw effect can be incorporated into a Content ID-registered song. Elgato also warns that automated systems such as Content ID and Audible Magic may incorrectly flag audio and directs affected creators to the platform’s dispute process.
- Preserve your evidence: Keep the asset page, license as it appeared when downloaded, creator details, date, and attribution record.
- Identify the claim: Check which portion of the broadcast or replay was matched and what work is named. A match alone does not establish whether your use is permitted.
- Use the platform’s dispute process if you believe the claim is mistaken: Follow the platform’s current instructions and provide the relevant license evidence. Do not assume that a library’s “royalty-free” label makes a sound claim-proof.
Sound effects, background music, and playback controls are different
StreamBeats is a music resource, not a sound-effects library. Its published license covers music synchronized with Twitch, YouTube, podcasts, or equivalent platforms, and includes restrictions such as no standalone redistribution, remixing, or sampling. It may suit a background-music need, but it is not a source for alert or impact effects.

A Stream Deck can be an optional physical control surface for triggering audio cues; it does not supply sound files or grant a license to use them. Elgato says its Marketplace Music and SoundFX library was removed on November 15, 2025; its help article was updated June 23, 2026. Do not rely on that removed library as a current source. Check current hardware availability and software compatibility before choosing a particular controller.
