Yes. Hiding which channels you subscribe to does not stop your channel from livestreaming. YouTube’s subscription-privacy setting and the public display of your own channel’s subscriber count are separate things, and neither is listed as a general livestream eligibility requirement.
What does “private subscriber count” mean?
The phrase can refer to two different things:
- Private subscriptions: This setting hides the list of channels your account subscribes to. YouTube says other users cannot see those subscriptions, and your account will not appear in those channels’ Subscribers Lists when the setting is private. See YouTube’s subscription privacy settings.
- Your channel’s subscriber count: This is the count of people subscribed to your creator channel. YouTube’s help page describes how that count is displayed in shortened form; it does not establish a universal setting to hide the count completely. See YouTube’s subscriber-count guidance.
Neither meaning should be confused with the privacy setting for an individual live stream or video, which controls who can watch that content.
General YouTube livestream requirements
YouTube’s live-streaming guidance says a channel must be verified and must have had no livestreaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. The guidance does not list a public subscriber count, or whether subscriptions are private, as a general eligibility condition. Check YouTube’s live streaming tips for its current setup guidance.
Once eligible, choose a method that fits your equipment: YouTube lists streaming from a mobile device, a computer webcam, or an encoder. A webcam is only relevant if you choose the webcam method; an encoder is a separate software or hardware setup.

Mobile livestreaming has an extra subscriber threshold
Mobile streaming has additional rules. YouTube’s mobile livestream instructions require at least 50 subscribers, a verified channel, no livestream restrictions in the previous 90 days, and live streaming turned on. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
- With at least 50 but fewer than 1,000 subscribers, YouTube may limit the audience for a mobile stream.
- For channels below 1,000 subscribers, the archived stream defaults to private.
- After the channel reaches 1,000 subscribers, removal of the mobile audience limitation may take several weeks.
These mobile thresholds concern the number of subscribers, not whether your subscriptions are private or whether your subscriber count is shown publicly.

Subscriber-count display is not a livestream rule
YouTube displays subscriber counts in shortened form. Its help page gives update increments that vary by channel size: one at a time below 1,000, by 10 from 1,000 to 9,999, and by 100 from 10,000 to 99,999, with larger increments at higher counts. These are display and update increments, not eligibility thresholds for going live.
If you cannot start a livestream
- Confirm that your channel is verified.
- Check whether the channel has a current livestream restriction or had one in the previous 90 days.
- If you are using a phone, confirm that the channel meets the mobile subscriber threshold and that livestreaming is enabled; allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- Make sure you have selected the intended method—mobile, webcam, or encoder—and have the required device or setup for it.
- Check the stream’s public, private, or unlisted setting separately if the issue is who can watch it. YouTube explains these choices in its video privacy settings.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a YouTube channel to stay live with uploaded videos rather than a camera feed, StreamNeo runs the loop in the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing needs to stay on at home; the uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. Start the free day with StreamNeo.
