For a practical HD planning estimate, Jio’s indicative figure is up to 3 GB per hour—about 72 GB in 24 hours or 2.16 TB over 30 days. These are estimates, not guaranteed totals: actual use varies by application and playback quality.
Estimated data use by video quality
Jio publishes indicative per-hour video-streaming figures. Multiplying each hourly estimate by 24 gives an all-day viewing estimate; multiplying by 720 gives 30 days of continuous viewing.

Jio describes these as indicative figures and warns that usage can vary by app or website, including YouTube. Treat the table as a planning guide rather than a bill prediction. The figures come from Jio’s video data-use guidance.
How to estimate your church’s actual monthly use
- Check the stream on the viewing device. During YouTube playback, open the player’s settings and check or select video quality. Jio explains how to manage data used for video streaming.
- Choose the closest quality category. Use the table’s hourly estimate as a scenario, not a precise measurement. YouTube may adjust playback quality, and the quality delivered can vary.
- Multiply by viewing time. For one all-day screen, multiply by 24 hours. For a stream watched continuously every day for a 30-day month, multiply the hourly estimate by 720.
- Compare with the broadband plan’s terms. Check the included data or fair-use threshold, any extra-use charges, and the speed after the allowance is reached. TRAI says broadband packages may have download limits, additional use may incur charges, and providers must specify fair-use limits and post-limit speeds for unlimited-data plans. - Leave room for other household use. Phones, computers, and other viewers may also use the connection. Their additional consumption is not quantified here, so avoid planning right up to the stated limit.
Viewer download data is not broadcaster upload bitrate
The figures above concern data downloaded by a viewer. YouTube’s live encoder recommendations describe what a broadcaster sends to YouTube, not the exact data every viewer receives. For example, YouTube recommends H.264 ingest bitrates of 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 8 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps. YouTube also transcodes live streams into output formats for viewers on different devices and networks, so a broadcaster’s input bitrate is not a precise viewer-data forecast. As a unit conversion, a sustained 1 Mbps is about 0.45 decimal GB per hour before protocol overhead: 1 megabit is one-eighth of a megabyte, multiplied by 3,600 seconds and divided by 1,000 megabytes per decimal GB. This helps illustrate why higher sustained bitrates generally mean more data, but it should not be substituted for a measurement of a YouTube viewer’s session.
What to check on an Indian “unlimited” broadband plan
Do not assume that “unlimited” means the connection stays at full speed without conditions. Check the plan’s fair-use threshold and the speed or charges that apply after it. When comparing plans for a church or home, also verify that the provider serves the exact address; current availability and terms can be location-specific. TRAI’s guidance supports checking download limits, possible additional charges, and disclosed post-limit speeds, but does not establish which provider or plan is best for a particular address.
