For an Indian startup comparing published entry plans, Percy has the lower-cost paid starting point: BrowserStack lists Percy Desktop at $199 per month, billed annually, with 10,000 screenshots per month. Applitools lists its Starter plan at $667 per month, paid annually, with 100,000 component checkpoints or 1,000 page checkpoints. These allowances measure different things, so the prices are not directly comparable per test or screen. Neither figure establishes what an Indian customer will pay after currency conversion and taxes.

Published prices and included usage

The vendor pricing pages accessed October 3, 2026, show the following plan figures. They are published prices, not confirmed Indian checkout totals.

Percy also lists separate App Percy plans. Do not assume App Percy allowances or pricing apply to Percy Web. The BrowserStack pages reviewed do not resolve the conflicting free-plan screenshot limits.

Why the allowances are not interchangeable

Percy counts usage in screenshots produced by rendering a page or component in an individual browser and responsive-width combination. In the documentation’s example, one snapshot across three devices counts as three screenshots. Estimate your monthly volume from the full combination of screens, browsers and widths, not just the number of test cases. Percy billing documentation

Applitools Starter instead publishes allowances in component checkpoints or page checkpoints. Those units do not map one-to-one to Percy screenshots. Compare estimates from your actual test plan rather than dividing plan prices by headline allowances and treating the result as a common unit cost.

How to estimate a startup’s monthly cost

  1. Count Percy screenshot permutations. For each test run, estimate the pages or components captured multiplied by the browser and responsive-width combinations. Include the runs you expect across the month. Use the plan’s included screenshots and published overage rate to model likely spend.
  2. Estimate Applitools usage in its own units. Work out the page or component checkpoints your test suite will use, then compare the estimate with the Starter allowance. For Professional or Enterprise, ask Applitools how the quote applies to your expected active pages, components and executions.
  3. Match plan coverage to the product you ship. Check whether you need desktop only or mobile coverage, which browsers and devices matter, and which review, integration, accessibility or other capabilities are included at the plan level. Applitools’ pricing page lists visual, functional, Storybook, cross-browser/device, Figma, CI/CD, maintenance, accessibility and support capabilities across its plans; Percy separates Desktop and Desktop & Mobile plans. Confirm current entitlements on the live pages.
  4. Model growth and excess usage. Both displayed paid entry prices use annual billing. Percy publishes overage prices for Desktop and Desktop & Mobile; confirm what happens when you exceed included capacity and how the vendor’s quote handles growth. Do not assume a custom Applitools plan’s price or overage terms.
  5. Get the Indian landed amount in writing. Ask each vendor for the quoted currency, annual commitment and total, applicable tax or GST line items, foreign-exchange and payment handling, overage terms, and any startup discount. Public materials reviewed do not settle the final amount for an Indian buyer.

What an Indian buyer should confirm before paying

Applitools’ subscription agreement says order-form amounts are in U.S. dollars and makes customers responsible for applicable taxes under its terms. This does not establish the currency, exchange rate, GST treatment or final checkout total for a particular Indian customer. Ask for a written India-specific quote or checkout total rather than converting a displayed dollar price and treating that estimate as the final cost. Applitools subscription agreement

  • Is the quote in USD or another currency, and what is the annual total?
  • Which taxes or GST charges apply, and how are they shown?
  • What currency conversion or payment handling should your finance team expect?
  • How are additional screenshots, checkpoints or usage growth priced?
  • Is a startup discount available, and what annual commitment or conditions apply?
  • For Percy Free, does your account receive 1,000 or 5,000 screenshots monthly, and is the plan Percy Web or App Percy?

Capability differences to evaluate on your own UI

Applitools’ comparison page says Percy identifies differences after a build and filters noise, while Applitools uses match levels during authoring to handle dynamic content. It also claims Applitools groups related changes across browsers, devices and pages, and supports desktop applications and PDFs as well as web and mobile screens. These are Applitools’ own comparison claims, not independent head-to-head benchmark results or proof that one product will work better for every startup. Test the workflow with representative screens, dynamic content and your own suite before choosing. Applitools’ Percy comparison

ScreenshotNeo: an alternative to try first

If your need is website screenshots rather than a visual-regression testing platform, try ScreenshotNeo first: it is a website screenshot API and MCP server, and bills only clean shots. It is not a like-for-like replacement for Applitools Eyes or Percy’s visual-testing workflows.

For a basic capture, one GET request returns an image or PDF. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options and response details:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets; these steps can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits cost nothing, with verdict and billing information in response headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf for AI agents. The Free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Is ScreenshotNeo a substitute for Percy or Applitools Eyes?

Not a like-for-like substitute for their visual-regression testing workflows. ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server; consider it when the requirement is screenshot capture.
