To capture a long webpage in Chrome when it uses lazy loading, scroll down the page in sections first, pausing until newly revealed images and content appear. Then use Chrome DevTools’ Capture full size screenshot command and inspect the image for gaps. Scrolling can trigger deferred content, but it cannot guarantee that every site will load everything for a screenshot.

Why lazy loading can leave gaps in a full-page screenshot

Lazy loading defers images or other content until they approach the visible part of the page. A full-page capture taken while you are still at the top may not trigger the same scroll-driven loading as visiting each section. The result can be a long screenshot with blank spaces or missing images.

Chrome documents how to capture a full-size screenshot, but page-specific loading behavior varies. Scrolling first is a practical workaround, not a guarantee.

How to capture the page in Chrome

  1. Open the webpage and let it settle. Wait for the initial view to finish loading.
  2. Scroll through the document in manageable increments. Pause when new content appears so images and embedded elements have time to load. Continue to the bottom, then wait briefly and check for sections that appear later.
  3. Open DevTools’ Command Menu. Press Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows or Linux, or Cmd+Shift+P on Mac.
  4. Run the full-size screenshot command. Search for the full-size screenshot command and select it. Alternatively, in Device Mode, open More options and choose Capture a full size screenshot. Chrome’s Device Mode documentation describes the capture option; the Command Menu documentation covers opening and using the menu.
  5. Inspect the downloaded image from top to bottom. If content is missing, make another scroll-and-wait pass and capture again. For stubborn pages, capture separate sections and combine them with an image editor.

Pages that need extra care

  • Infinite scrolling: A finite screenshot cannot include an unbounded feed. Load the portion you need, then verify where the capture ends.
  • Virtualized lists: Some apps render only the items currently near the viewport and replace them as you scroll. A full-size capture may not contain items that were not rendered together. Capture the needed ranges separately if necessary.
  • Nested scroll panels: The page may have an inner area that scrolls independently of the document. Identify which area contains the content and check whether it needs to be scrolled separately.
  • Carousels and sticky headers: Check whether a carousel shows only its current items and whether a sticky header obscures or repeats across the result. Verify the screenshot rather than assuming the page capture reproduces the desired view.

Other capture and diagnostic options

A scroll-aware extension

The Chrome Web Store listing for FullPageShot advertises a full-page mode that handles lazy-loaded images. That is the publisher’s feature claim, not a guarantee for every site; test the output on the page you need. Before installing any extension, review its permissions and privacy information in the listing.

Use Network screenshots to investigate loading

If you are trying to find out when content appears, open DevTools’ Network panel, enable Capture screenshots in Network settings, and reload with the panel focused. The resulting thumbnails are associated with points on the loading timeline and requests. This helps diagnose loading behavior; it is not a replacement for a final full-page capture. See Chrome’s Network panel documentation.

Troubleshooting missing content

  • Images are blank: Scroll through the affected area again, wait for images to appear, and recapture. Some sites defer loading until content is close to the viewport.
  • The lower page is absent: Confirm you reached the document’s bottom before capturing. If the site uses an inner scroll panel, scroll that panel as well.
  • Only some list items appear: The list may be infinite or virtualized. Load and capture the specific ranges you need rather than expecting one finite screenshot to contain every item.
  • The screenshot looks different from the page: Check sticky headers, carousels, and embedded content in the output; capture sections separately if a single full-page image does not preserve the view you need.
