Nested scroll containers, lazy-loaded content, and fixed-position elements can all affect the result. The evidence points to several possible causes, not a universal Chrome defect; the correct fix depends on your Eyes SDK and page structure.
1. Confirm the checkpoint requests a full-page capture
A normal viewport checkpoint and a full-page capture are different. First verify that the checkpoint uses the full-capture option supported by your integration. Applitools’ current Playwright integration example sets fully: true on eyes.check(); see the Applitools Playwright integration documentation.
await eyes.check('Full page', { fully: true });This is Playwright-specific syntax, not a universal Eyes command. Selenium, Cypress, WebdriverIO, Java, and other SDKs have their own APIs and versions. Consult the documentation for the integration you actually use before changing code.
2. Find the element that scrolls
Eyes typically attempts to scroll the document or body. Some applications instead place the page content in a nested panel, such as a dashboard area with its own scrollbar. If the document itself does not scroll, Eyes may capture only the visible portion of that panel.

- Open Chrome developer tools and inspect the likely scrolling element.
- Check whether changing that element’s
scrollTopmoves the content you want captured. - If it does, configure that element as the scroll root using the method supported by your SDK. Applitools’ guidance describes
scrollRootElement(...)for this situation: Determining the Scrollable Element to get a Full Page Screenshot.
Choose the element whose scrollable content should be included. Setting the wrong container as the root can leave content out or produce an unexpected capture.
3. Decide whether you need the whole window or a scrollable region
A full-window checkpoint and a region checkpoint are not interchangeable. If you want the entire browser page, configure the window checkpoint with the relevant scroll root. If you want only a scrollable panel, check that region and use the SDK’s full-capture option so Eyes scrolls and stitches the region’s contents. The spelling fully() appears in an Applitools region example, but the exact method depends on the SDK: CheckRegion in scrollable elements.

4. Load lazy content before taking the checkpoint
Some sites add text, cards, or images only as the visitor scrolls. If the page is still expanding when capture begins, its final height may not yet be known and scroll-triggered content can be missed. Applitools recommends scrolling through the page one screen at a time, then returning to the top before capture: Screenshot is missing content due to lazy loading.
- Scroll down by roughly one viewport at a time, allowing the page’s own loading behavior to run.
- Wait for the expected content or images to appear; use an application-specific readiness condition where possible.
- Return to the top and run the full-page checkpoint.
Scrolling directly to the footer is not a reliable substitute: intermediate content may load only when it approaches the viewport. The scroll-through procedure is a way to trigger loading, not a universal readiness detector, so retain appropriate waits for your application.

5. Address repeated fixed headers or incorrect stitching
When a fixed header or floating bar appears repeatedly in a stitched image, try CSS capture mode. Applitools describes CSS mode as recommended for fixed-position elements because it avoids capturing them repeatedly as the page scrolls. Scroll mode uses standard JavaScript window scrolling. If the selected mode produces a poor result, try the alternative and compare the capture. Troubleshooting checklist
- Capture ends at the viewport: Confirm that this checkpoint requests full capture rather than a standard viewport screenshot.
- Capture stops at a panel boundary: Check whether the panel, rather than the document, owns scrolling; set the correct scroll root.
- Page height or content changes during capture: Trigger lazy loads before the checkpoint and wait for the application’s expected content.
- Headers repeat in the stitched image: Try CSS mode for fixed-position elements, then check the integration’s current mode settings.
- An example method or setting is unavailable: Verify the SDK, version, and account configuration. Do not copy Playwright syntax into a different integration.
