Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsCookies are stored by your web browser, so clear them in the browser you use—not through a single Windows-wide setting. In Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl+Shift+Delete, choose a time range, select Cookies and other site data, then select Clear now. The steps differ in Chrome, Firefox, and other browsers.
What clearing cookies does—and what it does not do
Websites store cookies in a browser to retain site-related information. Clearing them can help when a site is behaving unexpectedly, or remove stored site data for privacy. The controls are specific to each browser: clearing cookies in Edge does not automatically clear them in Chrome or Firefox.
Clearing cookies signs you out of most websites. It is also separate from clearing browsing history, cached files, saved passwords, and autofill data. If you intend to remove only cookies, select only the cookie option in the browser’s clearing screen.
Clear cookies in Microsoft Edge
These Microsoft Edge instructions apply to Windows 10 and Windows 11. Menu labels may change as Edge is updated.
#1 Best Overall
- 1.1 GHz (boost up to 2.4GHz) Intel Celeron N5030 Quad-Core
- Open Edge and select Settings and more (the three-dot menu) in the upper-right corner.
- Select Settings > Privacy, search, and services.
- Under Clear browsing data, select Choose what to clear beside Clear browsing data now.
- Choose the time range you want to clear.
- Select Cookies and other site data. Clear any other selected data types if you do not want to remove them.
- Select Clear now. Expect to be signed out of most sites.
You can also press Ctrl+Shift+Delete in Edge to open the clear-data workflow, then choose the time range and cookie data as above. See Microsoft’s Edge cookie instructions.
Delete cookies for one website in Edge
If only one site is causing trouble, deleting its data is narrower than clearing cookies for every site. In Edge, go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Cookies > See all cookies and site data. Search for the site, expand its entry, and select Delete. This removes that site’s stored data; you may need to sign in again there. See Microsoft’s instructions for viewing and deleting site data.

Clear Edge cookies automatically when Edge closes
To make Edge remove cookies whenever you close the browser, open Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Clear browsing data, then select Choose what to clear every time you close the browser. Turn on Cookies and other site data. Edge will clear that data on browser close, which signs you out of most sites.
Clear cookies in Chrome or Firefox
Chrome and Firefox have their own cookie controls and labels. Use the browser’s official instructions for the current steps:

- Google Chrome Help: delete, allow, and manage cookies on a computer.
- Mozilla Firefox Help: clear cookies and site data. Firefox’s article includes options for clearing data for a current website or for all sites and was last updated June 11, 2026.
Choose the right scope before clearing
- One website: Remove only that site’s stored data when troubleshooting a single site.
- A time range: In Edge’s clear-data workflow, choose the period you want rather than assuming you must clear everything.
- Every time Edge closes: Enable the automatic clearing option if you want cookies removed on browser close; account for the sign-outs this causes.
- One device or synced devices: Edge sync can affect where synced browsing data is removed. Check sync status if you intend to limit the change to one device. Microsoft distinguishes synced data removal from deleting data through its privacy dashboard; dashboard deletion does not delete data from the device. See Microsoft’s guidance on Edge history and synced browsing data.
If a website still does not work
- You are still signed in: Confirm you cleared the correct browser and selected Cookies and other site data, rather than a different data type.
- Only one site has a problem: Try deleting that site’s entry instead of repeatedly clearing all cookies.
- The page looks wrong after blocking cookies: Blocking is not the same as clearing. Microsoft warns that blocking cookies can prevent some pages from displaying correctly, so treat it as a compatibility trade-off rather than an automatic next step.
- You expected another browser or device to be affected: Cookie controls are browser-specific, and Edge sync may affect synced devices. Verify which browser and sync scope you are using.
- You also selected other data categories: History, cache, passwords, and autofill are separate choices in Edge. Review the selected categories before clearing; if an unintended category was removed, the cited instructions do not provide a way to restore it.
Or skip the browser setup:
If you need a clean screenshot of a website rather than changing your own browser’s cookies, ScreenshotNeo provides a screenshot API. For example, this cURL request captures a page to a WebP file:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
