Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo clear Firefox history, open the browser’s history controls, choose the time period or entries to remove, select the data categories you want deleted, and confirm. The steps differ on desktop, Android, and iPhone or iPad. History is only one kind of stored data: cookies, cache, downloads, and site settings may require separate selections.
Clear history in Firefox on desktop
- Open the Firefox menu and choose History, then Clear Recent History.
- Open the When menu and choose a period: the last hour, last two hours, last four hours, the current day, or Everything.
- Check the categories you want removed. Mozilla lists browsing and download history, form and search history, cookies and site data, active logins, cache, offline website data, and site preferences.
- Select Clear. Firefox closes the dialog and removes the selected data for the chosen period.
These steps and category names are documented in Mozilla Support’s desktop history instructions (updated June 11, 2026).
Delete one site’s history and stored information on desktop
Go to History → Manage History, find the site, and choose Forget About This Site. This is broader than removing a single history row: Firefox also removes that site’s browsing and download history, cookies, cache, active logins, passwords, saved form data, and site exceptions or settings. Use it only if you are comfortable losing those saved details.
Clear history in Firefox for Android
- Open the three-dot menu and tap Settings.
- Under Privacy and security, tap Delete browsing data.
- Select the categories to remove, then tap Delete browsing data.
Mozilla’s listed categories include open tabs, browsing history and site data, cookies and site data, cached images and files, site permissions, and downloads. To remove just one entry, open the menu, tap History, and tap the X beside it. If your app layout differs, look in Settings for the named item; menu behavior can vary by version. See Mozilla’s Android instructions (updated September 12, 2023).

Clear history in Firefox on iPhone or iPad
- Open the menu. On iPad, it is at the top right.
- Choose History, then tap the trash icon.
- Select Today, Today and Yesterday, or Everything.
To delete one site from history, swipe right on its entry and tap Delete. This removes the history entry, not the site’s stored data or logins. For site data, go to Settings → Data Management → Website Data and select a site or clear private data. Mozilla warns that clearing all private data cannot be undone. See Mozilla’s iOS instructions (updated April 8, 2024).
Choose the data you actually want to remove
On desktop, Firefox’s checklist lets you clear history without necessarily removing every other kind of stored information. Consider the effects before confirming:
Rank #2
- Browsing and download history: removes the relevant records shown in Firefox.
- Cookies and site data: can sign you out and remove remembered site preferences.
- Cache: removes temporary page and media files saved to speed up later visits.
- Offline website data: removes information sites saved for offline use.
- Site preferences: can include saved zoom and permissions.
- Form and search history: removes saved entries from forms and searches.
- Active logins: removes stored login state.
Category labels and available controls vary between desktop, Android, and iOS. On iOS in particular, deleting a history entry does not also clear site data.
Set Firefox to clear data automatically
Desktop
Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → History, configure custom history settings, turn on Clear history when Firefox closes, choose the categories in its settings, and save. Mozilla notes that automatic clearing may not run if Firefox did not shut down normally.
Rank #3
Android
In Settings, enable Delete browsing data on quit and choose the categories. To trigger the clearing, exit using Firefox’s Quit option. See Mozilla’s Android instructions.
The cited Mozilla instructions describe these automatic options for desktop and Android; they do not establish an equivalent automatic-clear setting for iOS.
Rank #4
What clearing history does not do
Clearing Firefox’s local history removes selected information from the browser; it does not erase records held elsewhere. Private Browsing can reduce what Firefox stores locally for that session, but activity may still be visible to visited websites, an internet service provider, or an employer or school on a managed network. Mozilla explains these limits in its Private Browsing guidance (updated July 4, 2026).

If you need a screenshot of a web page rather than a record in Firefox history, ScreenshotNeo can return an image or PDF with one request. Its cleanup steps accept cookie or consent banners and remove 60+ known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status.
