If Wirecast says “Activation Limit Exceeded” or that your serial number has been activated on too many machines, first deactivate Wirecast on the old computer if you can access it. If you cannot, use Telestream’s License Reset Tool; it resets all activations for that license. Then activate Wirecast on the dedicated streaming PC with your existing license key.
What the activation limit means
Telestream says a single Wirecast license may be active on one computer at a time. A license transfer normally means deactivating it on the original computer and activating it on the new one. If you bought multiple license quantities, Telestream says the permitted computer count corresponds to those quantities. Wirecast v4 and later licenses are cross-platform between Mac and Windows, but that does not allow one license to be active on both at the same time. See Telestream’s Wirecast FAQ.
The message does not identify which machine is currently using your activation. Telestream’s public materials do not show an individual customer’s activation state, so use the recovery steps below rather than guessing which computer is recorded.
Fix the limit error in order
1. Deactivate Wirecast on the old computer, if available
On the computer where Wirecast was previously activated, open the license preferences and choose the deactivation option. Telestream documents these paths:

- Mac: Wirecast > Preferences > Licenses > Deactivate License. The Wirecast 16 Mac guide labels the action Deactivate.
- Windows: Preferences > Buy/Upgrade > Deactivate License.
Menu wording can vary by Wirecast version. Telestream’s activation help page documents the platform-specific paths, and the Wirecast 16 Mac user guide describes license activation through Preferences.
2. Reset the license if you cannot deactivate it
If the old computer is unavailable, or deactivation does not clear the error, use Telestream’s License Reset Tool. The reset flow asks for the license key and an email address or order ID, then resets the serial number. Be aware that the tool warns it resets all activations on that license—not just the activation on the unavailable PC.

If you have a multiple-quantity license and need only one seat reset, Telestream says to contact support for an individual reset rather than relying on the all-activation reset.
3. Activate Wirecast on the dedicated streaming PC
After the old activation is released or reset, open Wirecast on the dedicated PC and enter your existing serial or license key in the Licenses preferences. Follow the activation prompt. The Wirecast 16 Mac guide shows activation from the Licenses preferences; labels may differ in other versions.

If the dedicated PC has no internet connection, the Wirecast guide points to Telestream’s offline activation instructions. Offline activation changes how the activation is completed; it does not change the license’s computer limit.
4. Contact Telestream or your reseller if activation still fails
If deactivation or the reset-and-activate sequence does not resolve the issue, follow the platform-specific troubleshooting on Telestream’s activation page and contact Telestream support if it persists. If you bought Wirecast through a reseller, Telestream’s FAQ directs you to the reseller for license recovery. If you cannot find the license details, check the purchase-history channels described in the FAQ.

Choose the right recovery route

If the error persists after deactivation
Telestream’s activation page includes additional cleanup instructions for persistent license errors. These are follow-up steps, not the first fix: they involve quitting Wirecast and removing specified preference or license-related files, with different procedures for Mac and Windows. The support page does not give a clear publication date, and file locations or labels may not match every current operating system or Wirecast version. Read the current platform-specific directions on Telestream’s activation page before deleting files or uninstalling software. If the cleanup does not work, contact support rather than deleting other files by guesswork.
