If a VisualScraper full-page screenshot is too narrow, clipped, or only one screen tall, first check the page’s layout width and whether the capture is set to include the full document. A full-page image extends vertically beyond the browser’s starting viewport; its width still reflects the layout width used to render the page. The exact VisualScraper controls depend on its version, so verify equivalent settings in your interface or official support materials rather than assuming a particular button or option exists.

Understand which page dimension is wrong

A browser viewport is the initial visible layout area. Its width can determine which responsive breakpoint a site uses, changing the arrangement and width of the content. A full-page capture extends down the document, so its final height is not necessarily the viewport’s starting height. ScreenshotOne describes viewport width as affecting responsive rendering and screenshot width, with height behavior varying by capture algorithm (ScreenshotOne full-page screenshots). ScreenshotRun similarly distinguishes the initial viewport from full-page height (ScreenshotRun custom viewport and device emulation).

  • Wrong width or layout: Check the viewport or layout width used before capture. A mobile-width capture can render a genuinely different page than a desktop-width capture.
  • Only one screen tall: Check whether the capture used full-page mode and whether the main document, rather than an inner panel, owns the scrolling content.
  • Lower content missing: Check for lazy-loaded content that appears only after scrolling.
  • Edges clipped: Check for horizontal overflow or a page that scrolls inside a nested element.

Fix dimensions with a diagnostic sequence

  1. Choose the intended layout width. Decide whether the result should show the site’s desktop, tablet, or mobile layout. Set that width before capture, using the equivalent viewport setting in your VisualScraper version. Do not try to correct a responsive-layout mismatch by changing output pixel density.
  2. Choose viewport or full-page capture deliberately. Use full-page capture when you need content below the fold. If you need only the initially visible area, use a viewport capture instead. The names and locations of these controls are version-specific and are not established here.
  3. Treat viewport height separately. The initial height can affect viewport-relative elements and when some content loads, even if the final image extends to the document’s full height. Set a suitable initial height for the page you are capturing.
  4. Inspect the exported file’s actual dimensions. Read the resulting image’s pixel width and height rather than estimating its final height from the browser window. Compare its width with the layout width you intended.
  5. Check how the page scrolls. If the site places content in a scrollable panel, scrolling the main document may not expose it. If content continues past the right edge, look for horizontal overflow and whether the capture method can account for the page’s scroll width.
  6. Check for size limits. If a long capture fails or is truncated, inspect VisualScraper’s error output and any documented limits for the capture method and output format. Do not assume one browser’s limit applies to another tool.

Diagnose by symptom

What you see What to investigate Next check
The screenshot has the wrong layout width The initial viewport width may have selected a different responsive breakpoint. Confirm the intended CSS/layout width and inspect the exported image width. ScreenshotOne documents the relationship between viewport width and responsive rendering (source).
The image is only one screen tall The capture may be viewport-only, or the content may scroll inside an inner element. Confirm full-page capture and check which element actually scrolls. VisualScraper’s handling of nested scrollers is not established here.
Images or content near the bottom are missing They may load only when scrolled into view. Check whether your capture mode scrolls before taking the image. Urlbox documents scrolling to the bottom by default to load lazy elements and determine page height; this is Urlbox behavior, not a guarantee about VisualScraper (Urlbox screenshots).
Content wider than the viewport is clipped The page may have horizontal overflow that the capture’s default width measurement excludes. Check whether VisualScraper offers a comparable way to measure scroll width. Urlbox documents an option for horizontally scrolling pages (Urlbox screenshots).
A very long screenshot fails or is cut off The browser implementation, capture method, or image format may impose a dimension limit. Inspect the output dimensions and error. Limits vary; for example, Urlbox documents format-specific limits (Urlbox screenshots).

Why a universal maximum-size number can mislead

In one cited Chromium DevTools implementation at revision d1baa442c7d3ad9e065761dd35a370746229be19, the full-page dimension check returns an error when either dimension is at least 128 × 1024 pixels; its error text is “Page is too large.” This is a detail of that Chromium code path, not a universal limit for VisualScraper, every browser, or every image format (Chromium DevTools implementation). Use the limit documented for your actual tool and output format.

Or skip the browser setup

For automated full-page captures, ScreenshotNeo offers a one-request screenshot API. Its capture can accept cookie or consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before the shot; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses include X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. It also has an MCP server for AI agents, with take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. See ScreenshotNeo.
