To create a YouTube Live stream from prerecorded videos in Restream, open Pre-recorded livestream > Playlist, add and order your videos, preview the result, then schedule it with YouTube selected as a destination. Restream starts the playlist automatically at the scheduled time. This creates one livestream from a sequence of video files; it does not create a regular YouTube video playlist.
Before you start
- You need a Restream plan with the Upload & Stream add-on. Restream’s playlist guide lists the Marathon and Media tiers as eligible; check Restream’s current playlist guide for availability and pricing, which can change.
- Connect the YouTube channel that will host the event and make sure live streaming is enabled. Restream says first-time activation requires phone verification and can take 24 hours.
- Prepare the prerecorded video files and decide their order. A Restream playlist can contain up to 40 videos and run for up to 24 hours, according to the playlist guide.
If live streaming has not yet been enabled on your YouTube channel, allow time for verification before scheduling. Restream’s YouTube connection instructions explain channel authorization and setup.
Create and schedule the playlist
- Open the playlist workflow. From the Restream home screen, select Pre-recorded livestream, then Playlist.
- Add your videos. Select files already available in Restream or upload new video files, then click Next.
- Set the playback order. Drag and drop the videos into the sequence you want viewers to see. Add more files or a countdown if needed.
- Customize and preview. Apply available designs, captions, or QR codes, then preview the playlist to check the sequence and presentation.
- Schedule the event. Select Schedule, set the event date and time, and choose YouTube among the destinations. Complete the event details and YouTube settings, then create the scheduled event.
- Let the scheduled start happen. Restream says prerecorded files and playlists begin automatically at the scheduled time. Its guidance notes that some other connected platforms may need a manual start, so follow the instructions shown for any additional destination.
Restream also offers a general YouTube event route: choose New Stream, select Playlist as the stream type, choose files, enter event details, activate YouTube, set channel options, and create the event. The dedicated Pre-recorded livestream > Playlist route is the more direct option when you need to build and order multiple videos.

Connect the right channel
Authorize the YouTube channel that should host the event. If it is your first time enabling YouTube Live, Restream says phone verification is required and activation takes 24 hours. Do not leave this until shortly before the scheduled broadcast.

Review the title and description
Restream’s YouTube guidance states a maximum of 100 characters for the title and 5,000 characters for the description. Keep the event description accurate about the prerecorded nature and contents of the stream.
Do not start the event early
Restream warns that a YouTube event created through its workflow can be used once and advises against clicking Go Live before the scheduled time. For a prerecorded playlist, use the schedule flow and let Restream start it at the planned time.

Limits and editing rules
- Playlist size: Up to 40 videos and 24 hours per playlist, as stated in Restream’s playlist guide.
- Editing before broadcast: Add, remove, or reorder videos before the playlist goes live.
- Editing after it starts: Once airing, Restream says only graphics and chat can be edited; you cannot change the video sequence then.
- No live presenter mixed into the playlist: Restream says its Playlist feature cannot blend prerecorded and live content. If you need both prerecorded clips and live elements, Restream points users toward using videos in Studio instead.
- Plan access and limits: Restream’s guide lists Marathon at $79/month with four hours of video library and a maximum 1080p, and Media at $239/month with 12 hours of video library and a maximum 4K. These are the figures shown in Restream’s guide dated July 25, 2026; verify current plan details before subscribing.
Troubleshooting
You cannot find Playlist or cannot schedule it
Check whether your account has an eligible Upload & Stream add-on tier. Restream’s playlist guide identifies Marathon and Media as eligible tiers. If your plan qualifies but the option is still missing, check the current interface and account plan details with Restream support.
YouTube is not available as a destination
Confirm that you authorized the correct YouTube channel in Restream and that the channel’s live-streaming feature is enabled. For a newly enabled channel, account for the phone-verification process and stated 24-hour activation wait.

The playlist will not accept another video
Check both playlist limits: no more than 40 videos and no longer than 24 hours in total. If you need a longer broadcast, divide the material into separate scheduled events.
You need to change the order after the stream starts
Restream’s playlist workflow does not allow video additions, removals, or reordering once the playlist is live. Make the correction before broadcast; during the stream, only graphics and chat remain editable.

You want to speak live between prerecorded videos
The Playlist feature does not support mixing prerecorded and live content. Use Restream Studio’s video workflow for a format that needs live elements rather than expecting a playlist to accept a presenter midstream.

Before scheduling, confirm you have the rights to every video, music track, image, and other asset in the playlist. A scheduled livestream does not remove copyright obligations, and permission to upload a video does not necessarily include permission to rebroadcast it as a live stream. Also make sure the channel’s overall content follows YouTube’s rules; a playlist workflow does not guarantee monetization eligibility or prevent enforcement action.
Restream’s workflow is for prerecorded files assembled into a scheduled livestream. It is not a traditional YouTube playlist of uploaded videos, and the Playlist feature does not let you join as a live presenter while it is running.
