Use Streamlabs Desktop Highlighter—called Replay in Streamlabs’ newer materials—to capture moments, assemble and preview a highlight reel, export it, and upload it to your chosen social platform. You can trim and arrange clips, add transitions, an intro or outro, and background music before exporting.
Before you start: Highlighter is now Replay
Streamlabs’ current product page still calls the feature “Streamlabs Desktop Highlighter,” while its newer Replay guide says Streamlabs Highlighter is now Replay. The steps below follow the Highlighter editing workflow; current Replay documentation may use different labels or export routes.
Platform information also differs between Streamlabs’ pages. The Highlighter product page lists Windows 10+ and macOS 12+, while the Replay guide, last updated September 22, 2026, says Replay is currently supported only on Windows. Check the current Streamlabs Highlighter product page and your installed version’s documentation before relying on a platform requirement.
1. Capture clips during your session
- Open Streamlabs Desktop and select the Highlighter tab.
- Set a hotkey and choose the replay duration—the amount of recent footage the hotkey should capture.
- Go live, then press the hotkey when you want to save a moment.
- After the stream ends, return to Highlighter to review the saved clips.
Streamlabs’ newer Replay guide also describes importing clips and other recording workflows. Treat those as Replay options; availability and controls may differ by version. See Streamlabs’ Highlighter guide and Replay guide for their respective workflows.

2. Trim and organize the clips
- Drag a clip’s edges inward to remove the lead-in or dead time and keep the moment you want to show.
- Reorder clips to create a sequence that viewers can follow. For example, place setup before payoff when both clips are needed to understand what happened.
- Disable clips you may want to keep but leave out of this export; delete clips that do not belong in the reel.
Review the beginning and end of each clip as well as the transition between clips. A cut that makes sense during a live session may feel abrupt when watched on its own.
3. Add transitions, intro, outro, or music
Use transitions where they help the clips flow, then choose the transition type and length in the editor. The Highlighter guide also documents adding an intro or outro and background music. Keep additions in service of the footage: an effect or music bed should not obscure the moment or make the reel harder to follow.

Preview the reel after editing. If a transition lingers, a clip starts too early, or the sequence feels unclear, adjust the edit and preview again before exporting.
4. Choose export settings and export
- When the reel is ready, select Export and choose the settings available in your version of Highlighter or Replay.
- Export the finished video, then upload it to the social platform you choose.
Streamlabs’ Highlighter guide describes downloading the video for upload to a creator’s preferred social channels. Its newer Replay guide lists export to a computer, YouTube, Discord, or phone. Those are the destinations documented by Streamlabs; do not assume every route appears in every product version. For detailed current steps, consult the Highlighter guide and Replay guide.

5. Choose moments that stand on their own
Streamlabs suggests looking for energetic moments, community participation, and unexpected events. Use these as creative prompts, not as a guarantee of reach or engagement: the sources do not establish that any particular clip type performs better as a measured result.
