For a YouTube Live replay, turn on captions (CC) in the player, then enable Loop or Repeat. YouTube documents those as separate playback controls and does not guarantee that captions will stay on at every loop boundary, so check the CC setting after the video repeats once. An ongoing live stream is different: viewers watch it in real time, and its replay is a separate video if the channel posts one.
Turn on captions and loop the replay
These steps are for a replay or other video on a YouTube watch page—not for an active broadcast. Captions must be available for that video; the Loop control repeats playback but does not generate subtitles.
- Turn captions on. Start the video and select the CC button when it is available. On supported devices, open the caption menu to choose a language or adjust caption appearance.
- Enable looping. Use the instructions for your device below.
- Check the first repeat. Let the video reach the end and start again, then confirm that CC is still on. YouTube’s help explains captions and looping separately; it does not promise that the captions-on state persists across every loop on every client.
Computer
Turn on CC in the player. To repeat one video, right-click inside the video player and select Loop.
Android
Turn on captions in the player. To repeat the video, open Settings > Additional settings > Loop video. YouTube also documents a default Show captions option on Android.

TV or game console
Use the player controls to turn on captions if available. For looping, select Repeat until the control indicates that the currently playing video will repeat. Caption language and style controls vary by supported device.
iPhone or iPad
Turn captions on using the player’s caption controls, where available. For repeat, use the app’s player settings; the exact menu path can vary, so check that the control indicates the current video will repeat. Verify CC after the first repeat.

If captions disappear after the loop
There is no documented universal setting that forces captions to remain on at every loop boundary. Check CC after the first repeat on the device you use. If captions are unavailable before or after the repeat, looping cannot create them: caption availability depends on the video and player. If CC is present but off, turn it on again using the player control.
Captions on an active live broadcast are a separate issue
A viewer’s CC button controls playback; it does not add captions to a creator’s live broadcast. YouTube says creators must send live captions, either embedded in the video or through supported caption software that sends captions over HTTP. Its documentation names supported options including StreamText.Net.

YouTube’s live automatic captions are English-only in its current help guidance, subject to rollout and stream conditions. When the stream ends, those live automatic captions do not remain on the video; YouTube generates a separate set of automatic captions through the VOD process, and they may differ from the live captions. For creator-supplied embedded captions, YouTube says the 608/708 standard supports up to four language tracks, while YouTube currently supports one embedded caption track.
