Yes. You can loop a prerecorded video in OBS and send it to YouTube Live as an ongoing broadcast. In OBS, add the video as a Media Source and enable Loop. The loop repeats the file in the encoder; it does not guarantee that your computer, internet connection, or broadcast will stay uninterrupted all day.
How looping a video on YouTube Live works
YouTube receives the encoder’s output as a live feed. OBS repeats the file before it reaches YouTube, so viewers see a live broadcast whose source video starts over when it reaches the end.
This is different from the Loop command in the YouTube player. That command repeats an uploaded video for an individual viewer; it does not turn the video into a live broadcast.
How to loop one video file in OBS
- Create or select a YouTube live stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create a stream or select one you have already set up.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube into OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the key as private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Add the file to an OBS scene. Create or select a scene, add a Media Source, and choose the video file on your computer.
- Enable the loop. In the Media Source settings, turn on Loop. OBS describes this option as specifying whether the file plays again once playback has completed. The setting is for that source, so check it if you replace the file or create another source. See the OBS Media Sources guide.
- Start the encoder feed and check YouTube’s preview. Confirm that the video and audio look and sound right in Live Control Room. Follow the selected YouTube workflow’s prompts to go live.
- Keep OBS and the connection running. Monitor stream health and audio/video quality while the broadcast is active. When you are finished, end the stream in YouTube and stop sending the encoder feed. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the workflow.
Streaming a playlist instead of one file
For a playlist, OBS documents a separate VLC Video source that can loop the playlist. VLC must be installed for that source to be available. For a single video, the ordinary Media Source with Loop enabled is the simpler option. The setup is described in the OBS Media Sources guide.

What “all day” does—and does not—mean
A loop does not keep the broadcast online by itself
Looping controls file playback, not the reliability of the encoder or network. OBS must keep running and sending a stable feed; a computer or connection problem can interrupt the broadcast. YouTube recommends testing encoder settings, previewing the feed, choosing a quality your connection can reliably send, and monitoring stream health. Its encoder settings guidance covers bitrate and resolution choices. The cited YouTube and OBS documentation does not establish one universal minimum computer specification.
Live duration, replay archives, and DVR are separate
A stream lasting more than 12 hours is not automatically disallowed by the archive guidance, but YouTube warns that streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured as an archive. Streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived. YouTube recommends keeping a local recording if you need a backup. These are archive cautions, not a guarantee about whether a live feed will continue. See YouTube’s archive guidance.

Viewers’ ability to rewind a live broadcast is a separate matter: YouTube says DVR capabilities may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. See YouTube’s DVR guidance.
Copyright can interrupt a technically sound stream
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match may cause YouTube to replace the feed, interrupt the stream, or terminate it. Even if you have a licence, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist for the live stream to proceed without a claim-related interruption. Only stream material you have the necessary rights to use; see YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.

Troubleshooting a video that will not repeat or stay live
- The video ends instead of restarting: Check that Loop is enabled on the Media Source actually used in the live scene.
- YouTube shows no incoming video: Check that OBS is sending to the intended stream URL and that the current stream key is entered correctly. Confirm that the encoder feed has started and inspect YouTube’s preview.
- The feed drops or becomes unstable: Check the local computer, OBS, and internet connection. Test with a lower resolution or bitrate that the available connection can sustain, then monitor stream health. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance can help with settings.
- Viewers cannot rewind far enough: DVR may be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. This is distinct from whether the file continues looping.
- The stream is interrupted despite a valid loop: Review YouTube’s notification and copyright guidance. A Content ID match can affect a live stream even when the encoder is working normally.
