YouTube Create lets you edit videos and Shorts on a supported phone, then export the finished video or upload it to YouTube. Start by checking that the app is available for your device and region; then import clips, make edits, preview the result, and choose how to publish it.
Is YouTube Create available on your phone?
YouTube describes Create as a mobile editor for long-form videos and Shorts that is free of charge and without ads. It requires a Google sign-in and availability in your country or region. YouTube Help lists Android phones with at least 4 GB of RAM and iPhone XR or newer running iOS 17 or later. Check YouTube’s current YouTube Create availability and requirements before downloading; device and regional eligibility can change.
How do you start a project and import footage?
- Open YouTube Create and sign in with your Google account.
- Tap the plus button to start a project.
- Select photos and videos from your phone’s gallery, or import media from another app if that option is available.
- Tap Import. You can add multiple images and video clips to one project.
To manage existing work, use Recent Projects. YouTube Help documents options to rename, duplicate, or delete a project.
How do you edit a video in YouTube Create?
Begin with the clips and images you want, then add text or visual adjustments as needed. The available tools documented by YouTube include text layers, filters, effects, and basic color controls; do not assume advanced timeline features beyond what appears in your app.

Add and position text
Add a text layer, enter or change its wording, and adjust its duration and style. You can choose plain text or text effects, use animation options, and drag the layer to position it. Delete a text layer if you no longer need it.
Apply filters, effects, and color adjustments
Try a filter and adjust its intensity to suit the footage. You can also apply effects and adjust contrast, saturation, or tint. Preview changes as you go so that the visual treatment remains consistent across the project.

Can you use a template instead of editing from scratch?
Templates provide a faster starting point if you want a guided style. YouTube Help lists categories including cooking, travel, and fashion.
- Browse the available templates and choose one.
- Select the photos or videos to use, then import them.
- Choose the useful portion of each clip where prompted.
- Export the result or open it in the full editor for further changes.
YouTube says template projects are saved in the editor or after export.

How do you preview, export, or upload the finished video?
Before exporting, decide whether to save the file to your phone or publish it directly. YouTube Help notes an important music limitation: Shorts Audio Library music is automatically removed if you export a video longer than 15 seconds. Direct upload to YouTube can use licensed music clips up to 60 seconds, according to the help page. Music licensing and app behavior may change, so check the current instructions if your edit depends on a particular track.
Preview and export to your phone
- Open the project and tap Play to preview it.
- Open More and choose Export.
- Select the video quality offered in the app, then export.
Upload to YouTube
After exporting, choose Upload to YouTube. Add the video’s title, description, thumbnail, privacy setting, audience designation, and any other requested details before completing the upload. Review the video and its music rights before publishing.

What AI features might appear?
YouTube Help describes some Create AI features as experimental and limited to eligible creators in selected countries. Its help page accessed on October 3, 2026 lists Gemini Omni video generation in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, and the United States. It lists Edit with AI in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Türkiye, and the United States. These availability lists are a dated snapshot, not a guarantee that a feature will appear for every eligible account.
The same help page describes Gemini Omni as generating vertical clips up to 10 seconds. It also says the AI image feature can generate four images and turn a selected image into an eight-second video. For Edit with AI, the documented workflow accepts 1–25 items, and the result can be downloaded or uploaded. Treat these as optional features: if they are not shown in your app, your account or region may not have access.

Common problems and what to check
- Create is not available or will not install: Confirm that your country or region is supported, that you are signed in with a Google account, and that your phone meets the requirements listed on YouTube Help.
- Your phone does not meet the listed minimum: YouTube’s documented baseline is at least 4 GB of RAM for Android, or iPhone XR or newer with iOS 17 or later. Check the current help page for changes before making a device decision.
- An AI option is missing: The AI tools are experimental and country- and eligibility-limited. Their absence does not necessarily indicate a problem with the editor.
- Music disappears from an exported video: Shorts Audio Library music is removed automatically when exporting a video longer than 15 seconds. Use the direct-upload route if it suits your project and current licensing conditions, or choose music you have rights to use.
- You cannot find a project: Check Recent Projects. YouTube Help says projects can be renamed, duplicated, and deleted there; avoid deleting a project you still need.
