Use an AI-controlled browser to capture the page, then inspect its accessibility snapshot and test keyboard access separately. A screenshot records visual appearance; it does not reveal what a screen reader announces. An accessibility snapshot exposes structure and controls, but it is not a substitute for testing with an actual screen reader.
Choose the right evidence for the task
Decide what you need to learn before capturing anything. Pair a screenshot with an accessibility snapshot when you need both visual context and structured information about the page.
| Evidence | Useful for | Does not establish by itself |
|---|---|---|
| Screenshot | Visual layout, visual defects, chart or canvas appearance, and evidence for a visual bug | Semantic roles, accessible names, keyboard operation, or what a screen reader announced |
| Accessibility snapshot | Page structure and exposed roles and names; targets an agent can use to interact | Visual fidelity or real assistive-technology speech and user experience |
| Keyboard check | Whether relevant controls can be reached and operated in sequence, and whether focus is visible | Full screen-reader behavior across browser and assistive-technology combinations |
Playwright’s MCP documentation recommends pairing screenshots with accessibility snapshots when a task needs both visual context and structured page information. It also cautions: “Screenshots are for looking at, not for acting on — use browser_snapshot to get refs to interact with.” See Playwright’s screenshot tools documentation.
Capture a page with Playwright MCP
In a Playwright MCP browser session, navigate to the target page and wait until the relevant page state is stable. For authenticated pages, use an authorized session and avoid saving private content where it could be exposed. Choose the screenshot scope to match the issue you are documenting: current viewport, one element, or the full scrollable page. The exact tool arguments can vary with Playwright MCP versions, so check the current screenshot tool documentation for the schema your client exposes.
#1 Best Overall
- Open the target URL. Let navigation and any relevant dynamic content finish loading; do not assume that a page is ready merely because its initial document loaded.
- Choose the capture scope. Capture the viewport for what is visible now, a selected element for a focused defect, or the full page when the entire scrollable document matters. Playwright documents these screenshot scopes in its Page API.
- Save the output clearly. Supply a descriptive filename if the MCP screenshot tool supports it. Playwright MCP documentation says that if a filename is omitted, the screenshot is returned inline and saved with a generated name.
- Take an accessibility snapshot separately. Use the snapshot to inspect structure and accessible controls. Refresh it after navigation or a state change before acting on element references, because the page and its targets may have changed.
- Test the relevant controls with a keyboard. Tab through links, fields, buttons, and media controls; observe whether focus is visible and whether it moves in a logical order. Check that focus can move into and out of interactive elements.
- Record what you actually tested. Note the browser or automation tool, capture scope, output location if known, and whether a real screen reader was run.
For code-level details such as screenshot options, consult the Playwright Page API; browser API behavior can change between versions.
Make the inspection useful for screen-reader and keyboard work
An accessibility snapshot is a structured view of information exposed to automation, such as roles and names. It can help an agent understand page structure and identify controls, but it does not prove that NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, or another screen reader was running or that its speech output was usable. Describe the method precisely: say “accessibility snapshot inspected” unless a screen reader was actually used and its output or behavior checked.

When reviewing the page, consider whether headings and regions make it easier to understand and navigate the content. The W3C WAI Page Structure Tutorial explains the role of meaningful structure. ARIA roles and states can expose semantics to assistive technologies, but they do not replace sound page structure or functional keyboard behavior; see the W3C WAI ARIA overview.
For a first review, follow the W3C WAI Easy Checks guidance on keyboard access, visible focus, and logical focus order. A screenshot or snapshot alone cannot establish accessibility conformance: accessibility depends on interacting parts, including content, user agents, and assistive technologies, as described in the W3C User Agent Accessibility Guidelines overview.

Troubleshoot common capture and inspection problems
- The screenshot misses content below the fold: the capture may be limited to the viewport. Request a full-page capture when the whole scrollable page is needed.
- The screenshot shows a loading state or incomplete content: wait for the relevant page state to stabilize before capturing. Dynamic pages may need a specific condition rather than a generic navigation wait.
- An element reference no longer works: refresh the accessibility snapshot after navigation or a state change, then locate the current target again.
- The screenshot looks correct but accessibility remains uncertain: inspect the accessibility snapshot and test keyboard access; visual appearance does not expose all semantics or focus behavior.
- The snapshot appears complete but screen-reader behavior remains uncertain: run an actual screen reader and check its output. An automation snapshot is not spoken output.
- A page passes one check but still seems inaccessible: do not treat a single screenshot, snapshot, or keyboard pass as proof of WCAG conformance. Review relevant content, browser behavior, and assistive-technology use together.

For a direct website screenshot, ScreenshotNeo accepts one GET request and returns an image or PDF. This cURL example saves a WebP screenshot of Stripe:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for the request options. ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie and consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.
