2. A cloud VM with your own encoder
A VM running an encoder that sends RTMPS to YouTube is a direct, flexible architecture for one prepared loop. It makes sense when you want control over the encoder and are willing to maintain the machine, process, source media, and recovery. A cloud VM does not remove operational work: a stopped process, expired or replaced stream key, exhausted disk, or service restart can still interrupt the broadcast.
3. Managed cloud encoding and packaging
Google Cloud Live Stream API and AWS media services target managed media workflows rather than simply relaying one loop to YouTube. Google Cloud’s Live Stream API documentation prefers SRT for its input endpoint when the encoder supports it; that recommendation concerns the encoder-to-Google-Cloud leg, not YouTube ingestion. YouTube separately recommends RTMPS for direct encoder ingestion. Keep the protocol requirements for each leg distinct.
AWS describes a broader workflow using an encoder such as MediaLive, with MediaPackage and CloudFront available for packaging and delivery. That can suit a broadcast architecture, but may be more machinery than a single YouTube soundscape requires.

Set up a self-managed cloud VM for YouTube
This route assumes you have a prepared video file with the soundscape and visuals, a cloud VM that can sustain the chosen encoder workload, and access to YouTube Studio. Exact VM sizing depends on the encoder, codec, resolution, and whether encoding is performed in software or hardware; do not assume that a low-motion scene automatically makes every encoder configuration inexpensive or reliable.

- Prepare the source. Decide whether the soundscape is one long recording or a loop. Check that the audio transition at the loop point is smooth, the video and audio stay in sync, and the file is present on storage the VM can access. Confirm you have the rights to every recording, image, and other element in the stream.
- Create and configure the YouTube live stream. In YouTube Studio, create a live stream and copy its stream key. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, place it in public scripts, or reuse a leaked key. Configure the encoder to send to YouTube using RTMPS and the stream’s server URL and key. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends RTMPS for direct ingestion. YouTube: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
- Set encoder parameters for the actual picture and sound. YouTube supports H.264, H.265, or AV1 video and AAC or MP3 audio, up to 60 fps. Use constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube says the interval should not exceed four seconds. For stereo audio, its recommended advanced settings are 44.1 kHz sampling and 128 kbps. At 1080p30, its recommended ingestion bitrate is 10 Mbps for AV1 or H.265, or 14 Mbps for H.264. These are YouTube recommendations for those specified formats and resolution, not a requirement that every ASMR stream use 1080p. Choose a resolution and bitrate that fit the intended visuals, audio workflow, and VM capacity, then verify the settings in the encoder.
- Make the encoder loop and restart deliberately. Configure playback to repeat the intended file or playlist, and configure the process manager or equivalent supervisor to relaunch the encoder after a process failure. Plan how the VM will recover after a reboot or maintenance event, and test whether the encoder reconnects to YouTube with the intended key. A looping file alone does not guarantee a continuous live stream.
- Test before going live for real. Use representative audio and movement, confirm YouTube receives the expected resolution and audio, and monitor stream health. YouTube’s guidance is direct: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” An unlisted test can help uncover audio clipping, silence, unexpected loop gaps, or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain.
- Secure and monitor the operation. Restrict access to the VM and stream key, keep an eye on encoder and VM health, and set alerts or checks for a dropped process or stream. Decide who will respond if the stream stops; unattended software is not the same as verified recovery.
Keep a 24/7 stream continuous
Continuous operation requires more than a long source file. The encoder, network path, live channel, and any cloud service in between can fail independently. Test the full path and establish who or what detects an interruption and starts it again.
Direct-to-YouTube VM
For a self-managed VM, use a process supervisor or equivalent restart mechanism for the encoder, and verify reconnection behavior rather than assuming it. Monitor both the encoder process and YouTube’s stream health. If a stream key is changed or revoked, update the encoder configuration securely and test again.

Google Cloud Live Stream API
Google Cloud states that a Live Stream API channel in an active streaming state may be restarted after 24 hours. If you use this service for a continuous stream, design and verify restart and reconnection handling; do not assume that one channel remains active indefinitely. Check current per-region quotas and input/output limits against your planned resolution and channel count before deployment. Google Cloud Live Stream API quotas and limits.

Google Cloud Live Stream API billing
Google Cloud charges based on active channel time and resolution-based inputs and outputs. A channel can count as active without an input stream, so unused active resources can continue to incur charges. Its billing documentation specifies a ten-minute minimum charge, followed by rounding active time up to the nearest minute. AWS example is not a YouTube relay quote
AWS’s published example totals $69.74 for encoding, packaging, and distribution for an approximately one-hour event with 1,000 viewers, an SD 540p profile, and stated assumptions in US East (N. Virginia). Of that example, $67.24 per hour is allocated to distribution. It is not a price estimate for sending a source feed to YouTube: viewer delivery, bitrate ladder, region, and cache assumptions differ. A soundscape being ambient, relaxing, or looped does not itself establish that it is safe to broadcast or eligible for monetization. Use audio and visuals you created, licensed for this use, or otherwise have permission to use, and retain documentation for the rights you rely on. A live stream can be interrupted by a rights claim or other platform action. - Check rights for music, nature recordings, samples, artwork, and footage, including any license limits on live streaming or commercial use.
- Do not assume that a purchased track, royalty-free label, or attribution alone authorizes every use; follow the actual license terms.
- Make the loop intentional: avoid abrupt audio cuts, accidental long silence, unrelated repeated imagery, or a misleading title or thumbnail.
- Test privately or unlisted before a public run, then review YouTube stream health and any notices shown in Studio.
