To run devotional programming continuously on YouTube with Wowza Streaming Engine, create a live event in YouTube Studio, copy its server URL and stream key, configure your source in Wowza, and set a Wowza stream target to push that source to YouTube. For prerecorded programming, Wowza documents a demo publisher that can loop a VOD file. That loop is only one part of a 24/7 operation: plan and test recovery, monitoring, internet and power contingencies, rights, and YouTube event restarts separately.
Choose the streaming architecture before setup
There are two distinct Wowza products in this workflow. Wowza Streaming Engine is media-server software that can push a source to YouTube using a stream target. Wowza Video has a separate managed 24×7 channel option and scheduling features. A Wowza Video channel is not required to push Wowza Streaming Engine to YouTube.

Check YouTube channel eligibility first
Before configuring Wowza, confirm that the channel can go live. YouTube’s live-stream eligibility guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. YouTube also states a minimum age of 16 for livestreaming. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable live streaming well ahead of the planned launch rather than on the day of a temple event or service.

Set up Wowza Streaming Engine to push to YouTube
- Create or schedule the YouTube event. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule the stream. Copy the event’s server URL (also called the ingest URL) and stream key. Keep the key private: anyone with access to it may be able to send video to that event. A scheduled event can provide a watch page and promotion time.
- Prepare the source in Wowza. Create or select the Wowza live application and connect the live encoder or camera source. For prerecorded devotional material, use the documented Wowza Streaming Engine demo publisher workflow to publish a VOD file in a loop until stopped. Confirm that the intended audio and video are present at the Wowza input before troubleshooting the YouTube destination.
- Configure the YouTube stream target. In Wowza Streaming Engine, add or configure a stream target for YouTube with the destination details copied from YouTube. Start the source and target. Check the target status in Wowza and confirm that YouTube’s Live Control Room receives a preview before making the event public. Wowza target status can help distinguish a waiting target, an active target, or an error.
- Set encoding to what the source and upload can sustain. YouTube currently supports RTMP and RTMPS ingest, H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant-bitrate encoding, and frame rates up to 60 fps. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. Match the chosen resolution and bitrate to the source and stable upstream capacity; a high nominal resolution is not useful if the connection cannot sustain it. YouTube transcodes live input into viewer formats. RTMPS encrypts the ingest connection.
- Check end-to-end playback. Use the YouTube preview, then verify the watch page and playback on a mobile device. Confirm picture, audio level, synchronization, and that the correct event is receiving the feed. Do this before announcing the stream as live.
Choose a source: live input or a looping devotional video
Live camera or encoder
A camera-based service or live production needs a source encoder feeding Wowza. The source’s continuity is distinct from the Wowza-to-YouTube connection: if the camera, encoder, power, or source network stops, a healthy stream target cannot create new program content. Decide who can check the source and how it will be restored after a fault.
Prerecorded VOD loop
Wowza’s documented demo publisher can loop a VOD file until it is stopped, which can provide repeating prerecorded programming as a live input to YouTube. Test the specific file and full playback chain for a complete loop, including the transition back to the beginning and audio. A file loop does not by itself establish unattended source restart, fault-tolerant delivery, alerting, or a continuously healthy YouTube target.

Use material you have rights to stream, and make the loop’s content and presentation suitable for the channel. If the program is meant to continue through interruptions or across separate YouTube events, include those transitions in rehearsal rather than assuming a source loop solves event continuity.
Plan upload capacity, testing, and recovery
Provide upload headroom
YouTube recommends 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the stream bitrate. Measure the sustained upload available at the actual Wowza/source location, not just the internet plan’s advertised download speed. If primary and backup encoders both send at the same time, YouTube says to budget for the primary bitrate plus the backup bitrate plus that headroom. Other traffic sharing the connection can reduce the capacity available to the stream.

Rehearse before the public start
- Set up the encoder at least two hours before the event, as YouTube recommends, and start it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start.
- Check the YouTube Live Control Room preview, the public watch page, and mobile playback.
- Listen for missing or distorted devotional audio and watch for frozen, dropped, or incorrectly framed video.
- If you have a backup encoder, test its failover rather than assuming it will take over correctly.
- Confirm who is responsible for monitoring the YouTube event and Wowza target during the broadcast.
Write down the recovery path
Decide how the source will be restarted after a crash, how an errored or disconnected Wowza target will be restored, who receives alerts, and what the operator checks after service returns. Also decide what happens when the source location loses power or internet. YouTube advises monitoring stream health and testing backup failover, but the documented Wowza workflow alone does not establish a guaranteed 24/7 unattended service or automatic recovery. Treat recovery and human monitoring as operational design tasks, and test them before relying on the stream for a continuous schedule.
Understand long-stream archive behavior
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a single 24-hour event will produce one uninterrupted archive. If retaining recordings matters, decide whether to end and restart events, and check the current Live Control Room behavior as part of the operating procedure. Event restarts can affect continuity for viewers, so test how the source and target behave around a planned end and new event rather than treating an archive limit as only a recording concern.

Clear content rights and verify India-specific obligations
Music, recordings, images, and third-party broadcasts
YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to hold the rights needed to exploit the live content on Google services worldwide, including music rights, and to comply with applicable laws and regulatory requirements in the stream territory. YouTube says live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content; a match can result in a placeholder, interruption, or termination. A devotional context does not itself clear copyright. Obtain and retain permission for songs, recordings, visuals, and any third-party broadcast material. If you have a license, check whether the rights holder also needs to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist.
What is established about India
The YouTube terms establish a general obligation to follow applicable law and regulatory requirements in the stream territory, but they do not specify which licenses, registrations, notifications, or other Indian requirements apply to this particular operator and content model. Requirements may depend on the operator’s legal status and what it broadcasts. Have the temple, channel, ministry, or production operator verify the question with qualified India-specific advice before launch; this guide does not conclude that local requirements do or do not apply.

Monetization is conditional
YouTube says monetized channels may enable live ads and other eligible live monetization features. Ads may not serve in every slot because YouTube’s systems decide whether to serve them. Treat revenue as dependent on channel eligibility, settings, audience, and ad serving—not as a predictable result of keeping a stream on continuously.
