Use a Java Selenium job to open each permitted university URL, wait for the page content you need, and save a timestamped screenshot. For a schedule that survives the Java process stopping or a machine restarting, have an external scheduler launch the job once a week; Java’s ScheduledExecutorService is suitable only when its process remains running.
Choose what the screenshot should show
Decide what you need to preserve before writing the capture code. A standard WebDriver screenshot represents the current browser viewport; Selenium also supports screenshots of individual elements. Do not assume a normal screenshot call captures an arbitrarily long page in full. Full-page capture methods can depend on the browser and implementation, so test the chosen method on pages of representative length.
- Viewport: Useful for recording the visible layout at a defined window size.
- Element: Useful when only a particular notice, timetable, or content panel matters.
- Full page: Useful for long pages, but validate that the method captures the whole page and handles lazy-loaded content as intended.

Check access and prepare the Java environment
Before scheduling captures, check the terms and access rules for each specific university website, including any applicable robots guidance. Selenium cautions: “Selenium will let you do this, but please make sure you are familiar with the website’s terms of service as some websites do not permit it and others will even block Selenium.” Policies and behavior are not uniform across Indian university websites.

Use a Java project with Selenium WebDriver and Chrome installed. Selenium Manager is the default driver and browser management tool used by Selenium bindings. If you manage ChromeDriver yourself, keep its major version aligned with the installed Chrome major version. Selenium documents Chrome options, including headless mode, in its WebDriver documentation.
Create a one-shot Java capture job
The following example records the browser viewport for a list of URLs. It waits for the document’s ready state, then allows a configurable short settling period for delayed page rendering. That delay is not proof that every dynamic element has finished loading; use a site-specific wait condition when a particular element must appear. Add Selenium to your project using the dependency instructions in the official Selenium documentation.

The explicit wait checks document readiness; the settling delay is an implementation choice for delayed rendering and should be tuned against the actual pages. If a target section is the meaningful completion signal, wait for that element rather than relying only on a fixed sleep.

Capture a specific element instead
After the page loads, locate the element and save its screenshot rather than taking a driver-wide image:

Run it weekly
Choose the scheduler based on whether the Java process can remain alive and what should happen after downtime. Java’s ScheduledExecutorService supports periodic tasks, but it does not keep a host powered on or restore missed executions after a process restart. The Java API documents fixed-rate and fixed-delay scheduling.

In-process weekly scheduling
This minimal pattern calls the one-shot capture method once a week after an initial delay. The task runs only while this Java process stays up. Production code should define the intended timezone and report exceptions through an operational log or alert.

A fixed-rate task may also be unsuitable if a capture run can take longer than expected; prevent overlapping runs and decide whether fixed delay better matches the desired cadence.
External scheduler
Package the Java application so one invocation captures the configured URLs and exits. Then configure the platform’s scheduler to invoke that command weekly. The exact UI path and recovery semantics vary by operating system or hosting service, so verify its timezone, working directory, environment variables, output permissions, timeout, retry, and missed-run behavior. Do not assume a missed weekly run will be replayed automatically.

Save and operate the screenshot archive
- Use a dedicated output directory with enough storage and appropriate access controls.
- Name files with the university host, page identifier, and capture timestamp so repeated captures do not overwrite each other.
- Keep an operational log containing the URL, run time, output path, and exception details; distinguish a failed navigation from a saved image.
- Set a retention policy or move old images to the storage system your organization uses.
- Validate screenshots on the same kind of host and browser configuration used for the scheduled job; fonts, viewport, consent dialogs, delayed content, and responsive breakpoints can change the resulting image.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this example save a full-page screenshot?
No. The driver-level screenshot shown captures the viewport. Selenium also supports element screenshots; full-page capture requires a method you validate for your browser and page lengths.
Will the Java scheduler run if the server restarts?
No. An in-process schedule exists only while its JVM is running. Use an external scheduler to launch a one-shot job and configure its restart and missed-run behavior.
