To loop meditation videos on YouTube Live around the clock, run an encoder such as FFmpeg on an always-on cloud virtual machine (VM), make your video files available to it, and send the encoded stream to YouTube using the server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. The VM keeps the encoder running while your own computer is off, but you are responsible for setup, monitoring, and recovery.
What you need
- A cloud VM: It must remain running and have enough network capacity to send the stream continuously. Compare providers’ current compute, storage, and bandwidth charges before choosing one.
- Your meditation video files: Upload them to the VM or another location the VM can access. Confirm you have permission to broadcast the video and every audio track it contains.
- An encoder: FFmpeg is one option for looping local media and sending it to YouTube. A community example shows an Ubuntu VPS with FFmpeg; it is an implementation example, not official YouTube guidance or proof of reliability. View the community FFmpeg VPS example.
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled: YouTube says first-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours. Allow for that delay before your planned launch. YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Set up YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, create a live stream using the encoder workflow. If this is your channel’s first live stream, enable live streaming and wait for activation; YouTube says it may take up to 24 hours.
- Open the stream’s settings and copy its server URL and stream key. YouTube’s instructions say to enter both in your encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, include it in a public repository, or share it unnecessarily.
- Keep the Studio stream settings available. When the encoder begins sending, YouTube says the watch page is created. Check the stream in Live Control Room after startup.
Prepare the cloud VM and media
- Create a VM with a supported Linux distribution, such as Ubuntu, and configure it to stay running. The exact provider setup varies; verify its current instructions and charges, including bandwidth.
- Install FFmpeg using the current package instructions for your distribution. Check that the installed build can read your source files and encode or pass through the formats you intend to send.
- Transfer your meditation video and audio files to the VM, or mount storage that the VM can access. Test that the files open correctly and that the intended audio is present.
- Store the YouTube stream key securely on the VM. Avoid putting a real key in a script committed to source control or in any public repository. Restrict access to the VM and any file containing credentials.
Configure the loop and encoder
FFmpeg can read a file repeatedly and send an encoded output to YouTube. The community Ubuntu example illustrates that architecture, but there is no single universally correct command, bitrate, resolution, or keyframe interval for every source and stream configuration. Choose settings based on your source media and YouTube’s current requirements, then verify the result in Live Control Room rather than assuming a command is suitable unchanged.
For the format error described in YouTube’s help, YouTube directs users to use H.264 video and AAC audio. If that error appears, check the encoder’s actual output format and adjust it accordingly. YouTube Help: Live streaming error messages.
YouTube documents RTMPS ingestion, describing it as RTMP tunneled through an SSL connection. A basic FFmpeg setup should use the ingestion protocol supported by its encoder configuration; do not mix RTMPS, HLS, and DASH instructions as if their requirements were interchangeable. YouTube also publishes separate guides for RTMPS, HLS, and DASH ingestion.

Start the stream and verify it
- Start FFmpeg with the video loop, any required audio, the selected encoder settings, and the YouTube server URL and stream key.
- Wait for YouTube Live Control Room to show the incoming stream. Check the health indicator for errors and confirm that both picture and sound are correct.
- Open the watch page and verify playback from a viewer’s perspective. Check that the video loops as intended and that no unintended silence, gaps, or visual interruptions occur at the loop point.
- Keep a way to inspect the VM and encoder process. A cloud VM provides an always-on place to run the process; it does not, by itself, guarantee that FFmpeg, the network connection, or the YouTube ingest will never fail.
Plan for long broadcasts and archives
A live broadcast running continuously and a complete recording of that broadcast are separate things. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume that one continuous stream lasting 12 hours or more will be preserved as a complete archive. If an archive matters, plan around YouTube’s stated threshold and check the resulting recording in Studio. YouTube also documents a limit on how many live streams a channel can create in a 24-hour period, but the cited help passage does not give a number; do not plan around an assumed limit. Troubleshoot common problems

Choose between managing a VM and a hosted service
With a self-managed VM, you control the server and loop process, but you also configure and monitor the software and handle restarts. A hosted service can reduce server administration. YouTube Help names Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded video; that mention is not an endorsement or a comparative review, and current pricing and limits should be checked directly with the provider. Compare any option on current price and bandwidth costs, how uploads and loops work, restart and monitoring behavior, log access, stream-key handling, supported formats, and documented limits.
